Obama Takes the Cape

Pakistanizing the Libyan War

By FRANKLIN C. SPINNEY, Counterpunch

Weekend Edition, April 22 – 24, 2011

. . . . . .

In other words, someone has sold Obama on Pakistaning the Libyan War, i.e., pursuing a military strategy of relying on drone attacks to a destroy an adversary hiding in the environmental background.  What is astonishing is that Obama took the cape, despite the fact that only 12 days earlier, a  report in the Los Angeles Times by David Cloud illustrated once again the absurdity of Cartwright's and Gates' claims.

Phi Beta Iota: Brother Spinney provides some deeply ethical, practical, and future historical analytics in this Blaster.  Apart from his long-standing and deeply credible illumination of the continuing unethical idiocy, expense, and futility of what passes for national security “thinking” in Washington, D.C., he raises the rather fascinating prospect of Pashtun pay-back one day.  Dr. Chalmers Johnson made the term “blow-back” quite well known, and his latest book, Sorrows of Empire, remains, along with Derek Leebaert's book The Fifty Year Wound, General Smedley Butler's War is a Racket, and James Carroll's House of War, a candid indictment of all that is done “in our name.”  The world has changed–the Pashtuns and the Pakistani nuclear program (created with Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski's “go ahead”) may well make 9-11, which Dick Cheney allowed to happen, look like the token theater it actually was.   There are 5,000 separatist movements out there, and they are all out-growing the artificial political boundaries, the antiquated “conventions” of imperial powers, and the unsustainable tenets of predatory capitalism.  Pay-back is coming.  It is going to hurt more if we keep electing unethical thoughtless people to office.  We may choose to ignore reality, but reality is not going to ignore us.  Pay-back is coming.
