Andrew Garfield, a U.S citizen since 2010, served in the British military and then as a senior civilian intelligence officer, finishing his U.K. government service as a policy advisor in the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD).  His specializations included Counter Terrorism (CT), Counter Insurgency Operations (COIN) and Information Operations (IO).

From 2003 until 2010 he taught modules on a U.S. Army officers course held at Fort Bragg NC.  Between 2005 and 2006, he was head of operations for a U.S. Strategic Communications company providing in-country public relations support to Multi National Corp Iraq (MNC-I).  From 2005 to 2012 he was also a senior lecturer for the Naval Post Graduate School pre-deployment program for all U.S. Army commanders and staffs from Brigade to Corps level serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  In this capacity, he gave lectures on CT, COIN, IO and population or Human Terrain research to over 150 Corps, Division, and Brigade commanders and their staffs.

In 2006, Mr Garfield founded Glevum Associates LLC, a company that specializes in conducting population research and program evaluation and monitoring in conflict and post conflict societies.  This has included in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, the Yemen and Lebanon.  His company has conducted over 200 polls and thousands of focus groups and depth interviews (over 750,000 interviews in total), asking mission critical questions of all sections of these troubled societies.  This has even included interviewing dozens of active members of the Taliban and conducting reliable and accurate polling during the last two Afghan Presidential elections.  These interviews were undertaken in the most dangerous locales, often in the midst of conflict and major operations and at great risk and cost to the field researchers (seven researchers have been killed).  The analysis of this data has provided vital insights into, the attitudes, needs, wants, communications and behaviours of contested populations – the key terrain in modern conflict.

Andrew is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI).

He is a resident of Palm City, Florida and is married with two children.
