29 July Koko: US Government Suspends Scientist For Integrity Inquiry – Who Suspends the USG?

2 August  Scientist suspension is about project's management

The government's new new story:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The U.S. government suspended an Arctic biologist over how he awarded a polar bear research project to the University of Alberta and its management, not for his earlier scientific work detailing drowned polar bears, a watchdog group said Monday.

The reality check:

Documents provided by the watchdog group showed questioning by investigators earlier this year focused on the polar bear observations that Monnett and researcher Jeffrey Gleason made in 2004.

Phi Beta Iota:  There are multiple books waiting to be written on US Government inspections–those that were blatant abuses of power, and those that were squelched by the blatant abuse of power.  The Department of Defense still cannot balance its budget; still has not accounted for the missing 2.3 trillion dollars that were being investigated the day before 9/11; and still cannot present a coherent budget tied to measurable outcomes and performance metrics.  The 4% of the force that takes 80% of the casualties still gets only 1% of the budget, while 99% of the budget is spent on corporate vaporware and really big systems that are neither needed nor affordable.  To this we add the chorus of “know nothings” on the Hill who moan and grown about weakening defense when in fact they could not define a balanced effective force structure if their lives depended on it–as ours do.  The entire “debate” over raising the debt ceiling has been very bad theater–two crime families agreeing on an illusionary spending cut with no actual change in how we do business.
