Guardian: Intelligence chair: NSA leaker Edward Snowden may have had Russian help

Last year, in an interview with the New York Times, Snowden said he did not take any of the documents he obtained to Russia, “because it wouldn’t serve the public interest”.  Snowden said there was “zero-percent chance” that Russia had received any documents and that he had handed all his NSA data to journalists from media outlets including the Guardian, before leaving Hong Kong. “What would be the unique value of personally carrying another copy of the materials onward?” he said.

New York Times: Congressional Leaders Suggest Earlier Snowden Link to Russia

A senior F.B.I. official said on Sunday that it was still the bureau’s conclusion that Mr. Snowden acted alone.

Jon Rappoport: Sunday talk shows: Snowden is a Russian agent

If tomorrow, for reasons of protecting special interests and official agendas, Snowden needed to be painted as a mentally ill Tea-Party gun freak, or a homophobic green dragon with vampire fangs, there would be a gaggle of politicians and think-tank pundits ready to step forward and make the accusations, with great assurance.

Keith Thompson & Jason Matthews (CIA): Edward Snowden, Russian Agent?

In 2013, President Putin's aspiration simply is to recapture the prestige of — and respect for — the old Soviet Union. … With the Snowden story, the active measures target audience is Europe and Asia. … It marvelously suits the Kremlin to have a weakened NSA across the Atlantic.

Phi Beta Iota: We appear to have some of the most ignorant intelligence “oversight” members in modern history talking well beyond their moral and intellectual capacities. The fact is they do not know. Hawaii is much more a Chinese playground than a Russian playground. We do not actually know whether Snowden has 1.7 million documents — he could have only 871 documnts. China appears to have had run of the house at NSA Fort Meade and elsewhere via its electrical system access. What the unfounded speculation does raise is another unfounded speculation: could this have become a joint Chinese-Russian operation to leverage a single asset to mutual ends? Could the BRICS not only be creating their own Internet, but new forms of multinational intelligence collaboration against the US-UK axis?
