The judge has recognized that genetically engineered crops pose a significant commercial threat to non-biotech growers, which was a key issue in the litigation, Kimbrell said. “This case is a resounding affirmation of the right of farmers to protect themselves from GE contamination.”
Just as non-carbon innovation is pushing carbon energy out of the picture, so new forms of agriculture, such as those described in this article, are going to change agriculture. A significant segment of society now understands that locally grown organic produce is the most life-affirming option. Note also the list of unanticipated benefits to these systems.
In Charles River Watershed Association's (CRWA) Water Transformation series, Executive Director Bob Zimmerman outlines CRWA's new and innovative projects that work to fully restore the Charles River by examining and re-imagining water infrastructure.
As I have predicted for some years, the first large corporations to change their policies on carbon investments will be insurance companies. Since they pay out claims brought on by disasters, they are exquisitely attuned to what causes disasters and carbon energy is at the top of their list. Insurance companies understand what Republicans will not admit — climate change is a game changer unlike anything ever seen before by the human species. So I take AXA's action as good news.
The die-off of commercially raised chickens hasn't received much attention, even though tens of millions of birds have died, so many that disposing of them has become a logistical nightmare. But media silence does not mean lack of substance. This situation is telling us something very important about the inherent vulnerability of the industrial-pharmaceutical animal husbandry model. The most interesting part of this story to my mind is the fact that birds that are raised in a wellness as opposed to profit model are NOT succumbing. It took me a while to find a story that described this aspect, since the coverage of this entire event barely rates a yawn in corporate media, but this is a good account. We are being told something very important about our food system; it's a shame we aren't listening.
