This is an indiegogo funding campaign for readying, testing and producing cheap rechargeable solar lights that are competitive with the “normal” kerosene lamps used in developing countries. What I do not understand is why is it up to us to fund this, why isn't industry already producing billions of such lamps… oh yes – profit.

Kerosene lamps are harming the health and wealth of the rural poor in developing countries. At c.$5 retail, at last a safer, brighter lamp costs about the same.
Phi Beta Iota: We do not lack for information or imagination, only for integrity. The five billion poor with their four trillion a year economy (four times the size of the one trillion a year economy of the one billion rich) should be our focus of effort.
