There Will Be More Plastic Than Fish in the Ocean by 2050

There will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050, warned the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in a report published Tuesday. The report, The New Plastics Economy: Rethinking the Future of Plastics, was produced by the foundation and the World Economic Forum with analytical support from McKinsey & Company.

Phi Beta Iota: If true cost economics were understood, plastic would be as expensive as gold in relation to sustainability development goals (SDG). There are two lines of attack: recycling existing plastic and shifting to the new 100% recyclable plastic; and stopping most plastic use (e.g. for water bottles and all the “disposable” ware that deprives humans of jobs while consuming more water than would be used if humans were washing reusable ware.
