Editor In Chief Of World’s Best Known Medical Journal: Half Of All The Literature Is False
Dr. Horton recently published a statement declaring that a lot of published research is in fact unreliable at best, if not completely false.
“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.” (source)
Phi Beta Iota: 50% false and 50% waste keep recurring. While the degree of falsehood and waste will vary, generally it appears to be no less than 25% and as much as 75%, depending on the country and the domain or discipline. 50% of energy is wasted; 50% of food is wasted, 50% of every health dollar is wasted — the two go together because lies and corruption are what create concentrated wealth externalizing costs (and waste) to the public, and lies and corruption are what prevent us from rising to the full potential of the species.

Lies are why we do not have a prosperous world at peace, a world that works for all — and central to all of those lies are institutions that have failed — academics, civil society (labor unions, religions), commerce, government, law enforcement, media, military, non-profits — all content to lie and “go along” with lies because of narrow selfish interests in constant betrayal of the public trust.
