Occupy May Seem To Be Receding, But Look Closer
A group of business leaders—including Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and former Nirvana manager Danny Goldberg—are planning to pour substantial funds into the Occupy Wall Street movement in hopes of sustaining the protests and fostering political change.
Phi Beta Iota: whether intended or not, this appears more like the marginalization of Occupy, not its revitalization. They never understood the timing or the constellation of forces that favored direct FOCUSED political action (Electoral Reform Act of 2012). Congress has heaved a huge sigh of relief. The show goes on.

Similarly, Occupy so hell bent on kum-ba-ya slow process, it refuses to see the obvious: election integrity as the center of gravity for both fund-raising and efficacy. While this website advocates legal, ethical, non-violent approaches to the present crisis, it merits observation that both Martin Luther King and Gandhi believed that violence was preferable to passivity. So, what's “the thing” about Occupy Wall Street that truly scares the shit out of the political establishment and the MSM? It is that they cannot *control* that which they truly do not understand. And even if the MSM and the political establishment take the time to come to understand Occupy Wall Street, they will never be able to manipulate it for their political gain. And that is a truly scary prospect for them.

OWS “I’m Getting Arrested” app released for Android
Just initially enter a custom message and some SMS-ready numbers to contact in the event of your arrest. Then, as you're about to be corralled into the back of a squad car, fire the app up and long-press the bull's-eye for 2 seconds. From there, you can rest assured that your message will be sent to the appropriate contacts.
Occupy Wall Street: More popular than you think
A new survey out from Time Magazine found that 54 percent of Americans have a favorable impression of the protests, while just 23 percent have a negative impression. An NBC/Wall Street Journal survey, meanwhile, found that 37 percent of respondents “tend to support” the movement, while only 18 percent “tend to oppose” it.
Jonathan Kay on Occupy Wall Street: It’s a symptom of something serious
In response to OWS, conservative pundits have expended much rhetoric in explaining how the Tea Party is more principled and intelligent. But this seems to miss the larger points that both movements are making: (1) that you cannot run a successful economy that benefits ordinary citizens if up to 40% of corporate profits are funneled into government-backstopped financial entities that do little productive work except manage speculative investments; (2) that America cannot be a beacon of freedom abroad if it cannot afford to create a functional society at home; and (3) that America’s campaign-finance system, 24-hour news cycle, and dysfunctional legislatures have yielded a paralyzed political system in which politicians are incapable of tackling existential national problems such as unsustainable entitlement programs, crumbling infrastructure and 13-figure deficits.
Bill Clinton Knocks Occupy Wall St
“I think Civil rights, Women’s rights, Gay rights, the Vietnam War…and on the right, the conservatives, the Tea Party groups and the Pro-lifers, all those things, that’s part of being an American, to be able to organize with people that you agree with in trying to make your voice heard. But to make the change, eventually what it is you’re advocating has to be clear enough and focused enough that either there’s a new political movement which embraces it or people in one of the two parties embraces it.”

Occupy Wall Street, The Golden Calf and the New Idolatry
We all know how little Sabbath we keep, how frequently we let other people tell us our value, our place, our position. We all know how much we have let Wall Street control the conversation, alerting us that the market is “up” today or the market is “down.” We brought the calf to Wall Street to confess our allegiance to false Gods and to announce that something was dying for us. That death is our own belief in the sacred calf of the Wall Street picture of the universe. The “mike check” was just the beginning of a new conversation, between and among people, about what is really important. What is important is people owning our own times, our own tongues, our own labor, our own worth. What is dead is Wall Street's control of the conversation and us.

Why No Demands – Occupy Wall Street is a Rebellion, Not a Protest.
What Trumka’s endorsement of the occupation means is that unions, with millions of members and a formidable political apparatus, now have the green light to make noise. The responsibility is on their shoulders along with ours to grow this movement nationally.
‘Anti-Wall St. protests to succeed in US'
Allwine: Absolutely. The US Congress has made itself irrelevant – and irrelevant in our lives. I think the fact that over 1,000 occupations has sprung up altogether simultaneously is not an indication of something coordinated, but an indication of some deep, deep discontent that has been simmering and has now erupted into full blown anger.
We are really, really angry about a system that has completely disenfranchised us. And I tell you, the politicians in this country; the corporate and wealthy elites, they ignore us at their peril because we are not going away.

Tom Atlee: Occupying Wall Street: What Went Right?
J.A. Myerson: “Of all the criticisms being hurled at Occupy Wall Street, the most substantively interesting is the issue of scale. How large can the living-society portion of the occupation grow, dependent as it is on a reasonably small living space and an inspiringly simple if limited amplification system? Questions like this are worth pondering, and I’ll be taking some of them up here at Truthout in the coming weeks, but let us pause for a moment to consider how astonishing it is that this is a concern at all.”
Tom Atlee: Where the 99 Percent Get Their Power
Sarah van Gelder: “Powerful movements build not on a laundry list of policy demands, but on principles and values…. Powerful movements create their own spaces where they can shift the debate, and the culture, to one that better serves. That’s why showing up in person at the occupy sites is so critical to this movement’s success. In hundreds of communities around North America, people are showing up to make a statement and to listen to each other. They are also teaching one another to facilitate meetings, to take nonviolent direct action, to make their own media. They are taking care of each other, gathering food supplies, blankets, and clothes that can allow people to remain outdoors even as the weather gets wetter and colder.”
Tom Atlee: Ambiguous UpSparkles From the Heart of the Park (Mic Check/Occupy Wall Street)
In a culture obsessed with product, the process of creation is almost unbearable. Nothing is more threatening than the moment, the living breathing ambiguity of now. We have been trained to name things, own things, brand things and in doing so control and consume them. Well, the genius of Occupy Wall Street is that so far it is not brandable and that's what makes its potential so daunting, so far reaching, so inclusive, and so dangerous. It cannot be defined and so it cannot be sold, as a sound bite or a political party or even a thing. It can't be summed up and dismissed.

Today's commentary from Tom Atlee:
Dear friends,
The viral story field set free by Occupy Wall Street is morphing and spreading to hundreds of cities. The multifarious conversation of transformation is popping up everywhere like mushrooms in a forest. Both alternative and mainstream media are filling up with it, trying to understand, trying to suppress, trying to spin, trying to ride the wave, trying to contribute to the motion, turning, turning, turning, turning up, turning down, turning toward, turning away, turning, turning…
The tidal wave is turning, turning;
We turn around and find we care.
Kaleidoscopes keeps circling, circling…
and (r)evolution's in the air…
“Little wheels spin and spin, big wheels turn around and around…” — Buffy Sainte-Marie
The derivation of “converse” is “to turn together.” And the derivation of “evolve” is “to roll out.” It is well we should learn to do both these things elegantly.
Coheartedly,
Tom

Now, almost three weeks later, the once-haphazard movement is growing larger and more coordinated. Hundreds of people have been arrested. Large labor unions, including the AFL-CIO and SEIU, have joined in. When new arrivals turn out, volunteers swiftly equip them with donated sleeping bags and food. Dozens of cities nationwide have launched their own “occupy” protests in solidarity.
Occupy Wall Street Jumps the Shark
It hasn’t taken long for the socialist-organized “occupation” of Wall Street to jump the shark.
In a surreal news conference at the United Nations, anti-American radical and rogue financier George Soros (net worth: $22 billion) threw in his lot with the thousands of Communists, anarchists, eco-feminists, malingerers, and professional protesters who have been baiting and taunting police in lower Manhattan as part of a mass demonstration that began September 17.
Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) also jumped on the anti-Wall Street bandwagon. In a move that ought to permanently disqualify him as a GOP presidential candidate, Paul gave aid and comfort to the radicals who want to destroy America. “If they were demonstrating peacefully, and making a point, and arguing our case, and drawing attention to the Fed — I would say, good!” Paul said.
