Philip Allott, The Health of Nations: Society and Law beyond the State (Cambridge, 2002)
Fascinating search but not what matters. Certainly worth looking at the following:
Phi Beta Iota: The future map of the world will not be defined by macro-politics–nations, with a few exceptions, have become totally corrupt, lacking in both intelligence (evidence-based decision-support) and integrity. Most political boundaries have been imposed by force and are both artificial and out of touch with natural-geographic, techno-demographic, ideo-cultural, and socio-economic realities. There are 5,000 secessionist movements around the world, 27 of them in the USA. We predict that the future political map of the world will be defined by the following, in this order:
01 Changing water levels
02 Renewable energy sources & exploitation
03 5 billion poor connecting digitally
04 Micro-politics — locally-centered, self-sufficient, resilient, refusing to be drawn into or dominated by corrupt larger entities.
