Other reports suggest that 50% of the public is now at or near the poverty line — this tracks with 40% not working (including invalids, prisoners, and retirees) and a 23% actual unemployment rate. Data point number 2: federal government could begin stopping all forms of financial assistance to states which could in turn inspire a tax revolt.
