Lee Kuan Yew: Why Singapore's Extraordinary Leader Will Be Missed
Teary Mourners in Singapore Remember Lee Kuan Yew
“He is my idol, and not a day passes without my saying it,” Mr. Thirupathi said. “Security, law and order, truth, honesty — all of this requires vision and boils down to leadership.”
ROBERT STEELE: There are a tiny handful of individuals that have impressed me over the course of my 63 years. Lee Kuan Yew is one such person. “Harry” as he was known to his Western colleagues, was not the best Englishman in Asia, he was the best MAN in Asia — the best Chinese, the best Singaporean, the best leader. Period. During my three formative years in Singapore (1967-1970) I saw first-hand what good leadership can accomplish. It merits mention that my senior class at the Singapore American School, when asked to choose its class hero, chose two names: John Wayne (I have never understood this) and Lee Kuan Yew (my vote helped). I mourn his passing.
