US/NATO Embrace Psy-ops and Info-War
The U.S. government and NATO have entered the Brave New World of “strategic communications,” merging psy-ops, propaganda and P.R. in order to manage the perceptions of Americans and the world’s public, reports veteran war correspondent Don North.
Phi Beta Iota: American (and hence European) understanding of — and practice of — “Strategic Communications” within which all these elements are now lumped — is juvenile. We are immature to the point of being at best unprofessional and at worst clinically and criminally insane, beginning with an intelligence community that is simply not serious — all waste, no decision-support.Let's start with the fact that we are our own worst enemy, and that poverty, infectious disease, and environmental degradation are vastly greater threats to humanity than our contrived elective wars. Then, completely apart from the precepts of history documented by Will and Ariel Durant (“morality is a strategic asset”), we have the fact is that as long as you lie to yourself and to others you are destined to fail in the long-term. Lies are transient. It just breaks our heart to see the US Government and NATO be so stupid. The truth at any cost lowers all others costs.
