FORMER PASTOR WRIGHT OFFERS ADVICE
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the president's former Chicago pastor whose sermons touched off a firestorm in the 2008 political campaign, urged today that Barack Obama heed the words of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and transform the country into the world's “No. 1 purveyor of peace.”
Wright, in the capital today but skipping the inauguration, recalled a speech by King during the Vietnam war, when the civil rights leader denounced the U.S. as “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.”

Phi Beta Iota: It is not enough to be against war. Securing the home front and providing for the full education and full employment of the population is “Priority One.” After than comes wise principled stewardship of the natural and man-made resources of the nations, along with wise and principled development of government capabilities necessary to both nurture at home and defend against all enemies, domestic and foreign. The President does not have a strategy, nor does he have Whole of Government harmonized policies, nor does he have a grip on the true cost of wars abroad and high idiocy within the Department of Homeland Security as well as mass mediocrity in all the other departments. OMB is not managing, the US Intelligence Community is largely worthless, the military is hollow, and the diplomats are over-paid clerks no one listens to. Unemployment is 22.4%, not “under 8%” the banks continue to speculate with their Federal Reserve bonus money, and there is no plan to actually stop borrowing. All this because the President is surrounded by people who are either ignorant, or in the back pockets of Wall Street, ready to betray the public trust for private gain. No tribute to Martin Luther King is truly honest unless it also acknowledges the fact that he was assassinated by his own government.
