Iran, Turkey must work together to fight IS: Rouhani

TEHRAN: Iran and Turkey must work with one another to root out the threat of extremism in the region, President Hassan Rouhani told his Turkish counterpart, the official IRNA news agency reported.“A consolidation and expansion of ties between Tehran and Ankara is of paramount importance to us,” he said.

Phi Beta Iota: The schism between Sunni and Shi'ite variations of the Muslim faith are deep — deeper than that schism between Muslim extremists funded by Sunni dictators, and the West. This fight is not over. Despite significant but not enormous funding from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates into Central Asia, Iran has the advantage there — Herat in Afghanistan was the former capital of the Persian Empire. The future of Islam is in our view rooted in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia in the East, and India in the Near East. Secular advances could yield a reconciliation. Absent such a reconciliation, the Muslims are their own worst enemies, and far more dangerous to one another than they are to the USA.
