This fight is not over. Despite significant but not enormous funding from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates into Central Asia, Iran has the advantage there — Herat in Afghanistan was the former capital of the Persian Empire. The future of Islam is in our view rooted in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia in the East, and India in the Near East. Secular advances could yield a reconciliation. Absent such a reconciliation, the Muslims are their own worst enemies, and far more dangerous to one another than they are to the USA.
