Ghani named winner of Afghan election, will share power with rival in new government
KABUL — Former finance minister Ashraf Ghani was declared the winner of Afghanistan’s contested presidential election Sunday, setting the stage for President Hamid Karzai’s departure from office and a security agreement allowing American troops to remain in the country after this year.
Ghani, 65, will become Afghanistan’s second president since the fall of the Taliban in 2001 and will face the continued threat of Islamist militancy, a severe budget shortfall that threatens to bankrupt the government, and rampant public corruption.
But before he was declared the winner in Afghanistan’s grueling year-long election process, Ghani agreed Sunday to share power with the second-place finisher, Abdullah Abdullah.
Phi Beta Iota: The US has subverted the Afghan Constitution and imposed the creation of a government in which the legitimate winner is forced to accept a Panjshiri mob counterpart at each key position — Abdullah LOST (and could never have won, only ignorant Americans would even consider supporting a 100% Tajik to be elected by US-enabled fraud). We find it interesting that the First Vice President (Dostom) is a man who has been systematically betrayed by the US Department of State, which is so out of touch with reality in Afghanistan as to call into question their ability to be relevant there. Abdullah lost, soundly, and his demand that the audit not be publicized is the act of a mobster confident of support from his US co-conspirators. Meanwhile, the Haqqanis are being pushed out of Pakistan and strongly supporting Dostom/Ghani (Dostom is actually the more powerful of the two). As best we can tell, the US — and to an extent Iran — are going to continue to subvert the Afghan Constitution, subvert the legitimately elected President of Afghanistan (Ghani), and enable persistent crime by Abdullah, Karzai in the background, and the Panjshiri mafia. Abdullah is shopping for his new condo in Dubai, oblivious to the forces converging on his mob's demise. We hope Daudzai has doubled up on counterintelligence, to include some top-notch teams with financial surveillance capabilities, in Dubai and Paris. Eventually Dostom/Ghani will unite Afghanistan — the US has compounded its 12 years of military occupation with colonialist subversion worthy of the British Empire at its worst — the Treaty of Gandamak, for example. Sign the Bi-Lateral Security Agreement (BSA)? We hope not.
