Tyranny looms large in America, because We the People have become ignorant, inert, and too subject to mass deception. Read the headline and first pargragraph, then (below the fold) the Phi Beta Iota comment, and then the full story online. One bird, two wings. Time to retire this turkey, starting with Rockefeller, Webb, and Warner. The Internet is resilient against everything EXCEPT domestic treason.
Bill would give president emergency control of Internet
Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.
They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.
Phi Beta Iota:
Senator Rockefeller, like Senators Lieberman and Dodd from Connecticutt, represents the Rockfeller Family and Wall Street, not the good people of West Virginia. His introduction of a bill to allow the government to control the Internet is idiocy or tyranny, take your pick. It's time for the original hackers, the ham radio operators, to go back on the air.
We have it on good authority that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is quietly making preparations across the land to “federalize” state and local police forces. This is a replay of Dick Cheney scheduling a counter-terrorism exercise on 9-11 so that he could “control” the Armed Forces and deliberately and with malice aforethought “let it happen” and them make the most of it in rushing through a Patriot Act that was not read, just as the bill de-regulating the finance industry was not read.
If this bill passes, every eligible voter needs to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against every single Senator and Representative claiming to represent them. We can start with the lame Senators who now represent vested interests in Northern Virginia rather than the individual freedom-loving citizens of Virginia.
The Internet is vastly more resilient than any idiot government with even the best of intentions (which thsi government lacks) could make it; AND the Internet is the last hope for democracy and a restoration of the Republic Of, By, and For We the People.
Internet Resilient Against Terror Attack

Researchers have simulated what would happen to Internet reliability in the United States if terrorists were able to knock out various physical components of the network. The good news is that it would be very difficult to cause major disruptions across the country, although destruction of some key parts could seriously degrade Internet quality.
