Silent Install Firefox Plugin Backfires on Microsoft

Now a security hole has been found in a plugin that Microsoft have been silently installing into Firefox. Along with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, Microsoft have been silently installing a Windows Presentation Foundation Plugin that allows the embedding of XAML applications (an XML-based UI technology) in web pages, called XBAP (XAML Web App). … The only thing that surprises me more, is that I’m not surprised that Microsoft could be this incompetent when it comes to the safety of all users of the web using Windows, regardless if they’re using IE or not.
The book has not yet been written on how best to achieve cyber-security, in part because the US Government has no idea what that means or how to achieve it; companies like Microsoft have zero integrity when it comes to assuring the public interest; and no one wants to listen to the hackers whom we have supported since 1992, consistently pointing out that they are the trail blazers, the astronauts on the edge of the envelope. Now the U.S. military is turning over to Lockheed the idea of creating their own new version of TCP/IP while the rest of the US Government is left without resources, the private sector is left to its own devices, and no one is following the super-stuff emerging in China and India and Russia.
Syllable is becoming an easy-to-use free software operating system for the home and small office user. It is powerful, lightweight and extraordinarily fast and responsive.
We are producing two operating systems: Syllable Desktop and Syllable Server. They are meant for different roles, but they share the goals of being as easy to use as possible while still being very powerful.
INTEGRITY. Makes everything work faster, better, cheaper. What's not to like?
