We blather on about our free press, and how fundamental and important it is. Well, here are some facts. They are not pretty.
A new survey of press freedom around the world finds the United States has plunged 13 spots, now ranking just 46th among 180 countries.
Phi Beta Iota: US rankings are much, much worse than shown, much as US rankings for corruption are always a third or less than they should be. Corruption — and censorship — are so deeply embedded in the US system (political-legal, socio-economic, ideo-cultura, techno-demographic, and even natural-geographic) that the dumbed down and drugged up public is witless, with academia, the media, labor, and the religions being complicit in the self-censorship and corruption model of faux democracy. Sadly, most non-profits, including DemocracyNow! the publisher of this article, are also complicit. They lack the capacity to do holistic analytics, true cost economics, and to tell the truth, unvarnished, based on deep independent research. The US is more properly coded BLACK, as with China and Iran.
