Jean Lievens: Peru Providing Solar Electricity to the Poor Via National Program

01 Poverty, 05 Energy, Ethics, Government

Peru, where currently only some 66% of the population has access to electricity, will install solar panels in a National Photovoltaic Household Electrification Program for 500,000 of the poorest households.

The project, which was kicked off recently in Contumaza province with the installation of some 1600 solar panels, will eventually provide electricity to many Peruvians who now lack it.

It is estimated that by the end of 2016, 95% of the population will have at least basic electricity from a solar panel installed on their house.

Micro windmills. As the windmills for wind farms get larger and larger, these go in the oppoite direction. Small isn't only beautiful, it also seems to be efficient – if you can just make enough of them and put them to use all at the same time…

Sepp's Insight:

I believe this is the jump in battery technology that will make life with electronic devices much easier and that will give a boost to electric cars and other transport…

Graphene Batteries Offer 5-Second iPhone Charging

Researchers at UCLA have discovered a way to make graphene batteries that charge super fast, are inexpensively produced, are non-toxic, and that blow current battery technology out of the water in terms of efficiency and performance.

An iPhone powered by a graphene supercapacitor could charge in five-seconds. A MacBook powered by a graphene supercapacitor could charge 30-seconds. Electric cars powered by the technology could be charged as quickly as filling a car with a tank of gas.

Eastern Mediterranean Gas Fields & Pipelines

The eastern Mediterranean has natural gas resources but with the exception of Egyptian production this is rarely mentioned, almost never in the geopolitical press and only rarely in the energy specific trade press. The Oil Drum offers an excellent series of detailed articles tagged with ‘Israel’, but the style is dense and high context – you have to know the business to be able to interpret the content.

EXTRACT:

We find in the Wikipedia article an example of what The Oil Drum would call “above ground issues”:

The Egyptian pipeline carrying natural gas to Israel and Jordan, has been attacked 15 times since the start of the uprising in early 2011 and 21 July 2012. On November 13, Jordan Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said that “In the past 18 months of the Arab Spring, Jordan has lost between $4-5 billion at least as a result of oil stoppage, especially the Egyptian gas supplies”.

Owl: “Smart Grid” is NSA on Steroids, Expensive, Instrusive, & A Major Health Hazard

Who? Who?
Who? Who?

Worse than NSA, plus Hazardous to Health & Home (Causes House Fires)

This is one of the 2-3 most important and perhaps alarming articles (and well documented) I've referred to on this site in the last twelve months. An absolute must-read for anyone living in the US and all other western countries and owns a house or lives in a dwelling with smart meters. The dangers this technology poses to freedom and health cannot be overstated.

John Maguire: E-Cat (Nickel-Hydrogen Energy Catalyzer) for China by Cherokee & Industrial Heat

Andrea Rossi's Nickel-Hydrogen Energy Catalyzer (aka E-Cat) is back in the news. Having lain relatively low since reports of 3rd-party tests were released back in May of 2013, Rossi has hinted at a partnership between himself and a U.S. development firm for months. While there has been no official statement it would appear that the partner is North Carolina based Cherokee. It would also seem that Cherokee has validated the technology to the point where they are comfortable marketing it to international governments. More relevant details have been documented by Frank Acland at E-Cat World.

Excerpt from Article at E-Cat World: [A] meeting was apparently held for Cherokee CEO (and Industrial Heat Chairman) Tom Darden to report to Chinese officials and business personnel about the E-Cat. The article says that he met with “the president of the National Academy of planning a low-carbon energy” — who would have to be a government official….We have been looking at a possible Cherokee-E-Cat connection over the last couple of days here, and this latest information leaves very little doubt that Cherokee Investment Partners is the American ‘Partner’ that Rossi has been talking about for so long, and that they have now set up a new entity — Industrial Heat LLC — as some kind of vehicle for developing the E-Cat technology. It seems clear now that Cherokee has witnessed testing and is confident enough to start a marketing and fundraising push.
