Power Shift:  New battery could change world, one house at a time

The prize is the culmination of 10 years of research and testing — a new generation of deep-storage battery that's small enough, and safe enough, to sit in your basement and power your home.

It promises to nudge the world to a paradigm shift as big as the switch from centralized mainframe computers in the 1980s to personal laptops. But this time the mainframe is America's antiquated electrical grid; and the switch is to personal power stations in millions of individual homes.

Phi Beta Iota: Although just noticed (from 4 April 2009), this news item comes at a time when we are reflecting on Strategic Counter-Intelligence, and have decided that the discipline of counter-intelligence needs a draconian make-over.  More on that as our thoughts develop, but in essence, Strategic Counter-Intelligence must focus on domestic enemies–Wall Street, patents used to bury new  technologies to protect inefficient legacy systems, citizens whose religion leads them to betray the Constitution, and so on.  it is becoming quite clear that clarity, diversity, integrity, & sustainability are achievable, and that in combination they can create infinite stabilizing wealth.  We need sunshine everywhere–patents need to be issued on a “use it or lose it” basis, copyright “extensions” should be declared null and void, and must restructure ourselves to substitute information for infrastructure–we must become infrastructure independent at every level of society and most particularly the local level.
