Understanding Trolls, Spam, and Nasty Content

“From terrorist propaganda distributed by organizations such as ISIS, to political activism, diverse voices now use social media as their major public platform. Organizations deploy bots — virtual, automated posters — as well as enormous paid “armies” of human posters or trolls, and hacking schemes to overwhelmingly infiltrate the public platform with their message. A professor of information science has been awarded a grant to continue his research that will provide an in-depth understanding of the major propagators of viral, insidious content and the methods that make them successful.”

Subjects, Objects, Data and Values

EXTRACT

In the Metaphysics of Quality the world is composed of three things: mind, matter and Quality. Because something is not located in the object does not mean that it has to be located in your mind. Quality cannot be independently derived form either mind or matter. But it can be derived from the relationship of mind and matter with each other. Quality occurs at the point at which subject and object meet. Quality is not a thing. It is an event.

Google's Eric Schmidt calls for ‘spell-checkers for hate and harassment'

Google’s Eric Schmidt has called on the technology industry to put its collective intelligence behind tackling terrorism on the internet, by building “spell-checkers, but for hate and harassment”.

NOTE: It is very likely The Guardian will delete the below comments as made publicly there. This will tell us all we need to know about Zionist control of UK media being as strong as Zionist control of US media where not a single publication (or politician) focused on the Messianic Jew whose hateful comments probably triggered the shooting. Ethics at all levels, and education at all levels, are the only sustainable path toward a prosperous world at peace. Control such as Schmidt suggests is stupid, short-sighted, and will be counter-productive.

ROBERT DAVID STEELE: Lee Iacocca wrote a fine book, Where have all the leaders gone? and the sadness is that we don't produce leaders any more, only apparatchiks skilled at legalized crime.  I was thinking yesterday that the next big leap is ethical from the agricultural era to the industrial era to the information era to the ethical era. The Club of Rome made a mistake. The competing proposal was as you have suggested, education and bottom up intelligence. Limits to Growth is a top down “we can control this” approach. Not sure where the blockchain technology is going, but protecting the provenance of information — assuring the integrity of information — will surely be central and hence demand a decentralized approach that ends the corruption associated with hierarchies and delegated authorities too easily abused.

Communication ethics

Principle and practice

Author: Robert Beckett MBA, coordinator Institute of Communication Ethics

Abstract

Communication ethics, this paper argues, is a discipline ready for application to communication management and is particularly relevant in an ‘age of information’. With a moral foundation firmly set in the social and human sciences, communication ethics offers managers a means to face unpredictable futures with greater certainty and purpose. This paper outlines an approach in which all decision-making and its communication are understood as having an ethical grounding. Such an application empowers managers to act with integrity across the spectrum of their varied communication roles: through management and internal communications, public affairs and marketing, in advertising, media and publishing, and in the use of information technology. Positioned independently from the professional bodies of communication, an interdisciplinary ethics offers practitioners skills and moral frameworks that can be shared across professions and used to compare and evaluate their practice. This paper concludes by presenting a model of communication ethics that individual managers can use to prescribe a more sensitive and dynamic human-ethical environment.

Introduction: The Wellspring of Reality

EXTRACT:

The youth of humanity all around our planet are intuitively revolting from all sovereignties and political ideologies. The youth of Earth are moving intuitively toward an utterly classless, raceless, omnicooperative, omniworld humanity. Children freed of the ignorantly founded educational traditions and exposed only to their spontaneously summoned, computer-stored and -distributed outflow of reliable-opinion-purged, experimentally verified data, shall indeed lead society to its happy egress from all misinformedly conceived, fearfully and legally imposed, and physically enforced customs of yesterday. They can lead all humanity into omnisuccessful survival as well as entrance into an utterly new era of human experience in an as-yet and ever-will-be fundamentally mysterious Universe.
