The mainstream U.S. media blames Russian President Putin for pretty much everything – from the Mideast mess to Europe’s disorder to the U.S. elections – but the reality is quite different, notes Daniel Lazare.

Russia is the dominant power in the Middle East at the moment – apart from Israel, that is – while the U.S. is in disarray as a dangerous rightwing buffoon ensconces himself in the White House. The Democrats should take a long hard look in the mirror if they want to know who the real loser is. But they won’t. They prefer to blame Putin and Russia.

For just under thirty years I have been striving to re-direct the craft of intelligence away from spies and secrecy promoting war and waste, toward open sources and decision-support – generally unclassified – useful not only to the President, but to all who need decision-support.

Until Donald Trump and Mike Flynn came along, and John Brennan over-played his hand with lies of a very grand scale, I have been successfully marginalized.  It remains to be seen if Donald Trump can in fact defeat the Deep State, but I for one pray that he is successful.

An International Team of Experts Just Released A “Manifesto” on How to Fix Science

  • Experts have published a “manifesto” on how to improve science research in four areas: methods, reporting and dissemination, reproducibility, and evaluation and incentives.
  • With research showing that many published scientific papers fail to move science forward, this manifesto provides a much-needed blueprint for progress in science research.

The authors note in the manifesto that biomedical research is particularly flawed. They cite a “meta-research” analysis that determined that 85 percent of research efforts in that field are wasted.
