Poverty isn’t just a fact of nature. We made it happen, and we can fix it.
“It is impossible to solve an entrenched problem like mass poverty without understanding how it came into being. There’s every reason to believe we can overcome poverty, if we take the time to understand and learn the lessons from how it is created.”
Here are just three ways mass poverty has been created.
This report arguments the Stiglitz, Sanders, and Warren papers warning us about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Obama for whatever reason is defending the indefensible. It is a grave error with horrible consequences.
Exclusive: Condoleezza Rice has crossed the threshold into esteemed celebrity – a welcomed speaker at this year’s College of William and Mary commencement – despite her record as the liar who sold the illegal war in Iraq and choreographed torture at CIA “black sites,” writes ex-CIA analyst Ray McGovern.
Rachel Playforth introduces a new report on how digital technologies might contribute to or damage development agendas in the coming years. Through scenario development planning, the project investigated the landscape of developing countries in the digital age and how practitioners and policymakers might best respond. None of the scenarios below represents the most desirable outcome, but by working backwards from an ideal future, participants were able to develop key strategies for positive change.
Here is a lovely story of a creative low tech and inexpensive solution to certain kinds of drought. It wouldn't work everywhere, but it will many places. It replicates a technology used by Egyptians 5,000 years ago.

EXTRACT
I am saying something very simple: I don't know, and I don't know anyone else who really does know, for absolutely sure, how secure the various networks and systems on airplanes are. I do know that when an IT person says they are secure because they use a firewall, I am skeptical. I am not a fan of security by obscurity, often favoring open source reporting by an independent security review on a periodic basis. I also know that physically isolated networks are sure a whole lot more secure than two network segments that are electronically isolated. Lastly, I know, for absolutely sure, I would be a boatload more comfortable really knowing that airplanes, of all things, maintain the highest level of security possible.
