NukeMap

This is an ingenious interactive site that enables viewers to input any town, city or region, type of nuclear bomb and various other variables connected to a detonated nuclear bomb to graphically show on a map where, how far and what types of destruction and effects would occur from the detonation point. Educational and very sobering especially if viewers choose the Russian-made “Tsar Bombas” at 50 MT or 100 MT to explode over major cities such as Washington, DC or NYC. Includes as bomb selections what appears to be almost all of the US and Russian arsenal, crude and terrorist bombs, plus older or historical nuclear bombs such as the one sent over Nagasaki.

SchwartzReport: Tar Sands Disaster in Canada Unfolding

03 Environmental Degradation

schwartz reportThe corporate media pays no attention, you almost never see a mention of what is happening, and the American government doesn't want you to know about it. But here is the reality of the Alberta Tar Sands. This is a vile project, ill-conceived, and with great power to destroy the environment.  Click through to see the pictures of what this project is doing to the environment.

Alberta Tar Sands Have Been Leaking for Nine Weeks with No Signs of Stopping
MORGANA MATUS – inhabitat

EXTRACT:

In Cold Lake, Alberta an environmental disaster is unfolding. The Primrose bitumen emulsion site has been seeping tar over 30 acres of swampy forest for the past nine weeks. Already, the viscous substance has contaminated a large swath of vegetation and killed dozens of animals. About 26,000 barrels of tar have been removed from the area. An anonymous government scientist told the Star that the leak was not going away, that no one understood the causes of the problem, and do not have any effective remediation measures in place. A spokesperson for the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), which oversees the extraction sites, is currently working with owner Canadian Natural Resources Ltd to begin to clean up the mess.

US Military's Not So Secret War on anti-GMO Activists and Scientists Exposed?  Or a Simple Misunderstanding?

“A highly concerning new investigative report from the largest daily newspaper in Germany alleges that Monsanto, the US Military and the US government have colluded to track and disrupt both anti-GMO activists and independent scientists who study the adverse effects of genetically modified food. As revealed by Sustainable Pulse, on July 13th the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung detailed information on how the US Government “advances the interests of their corporations,” focusing on Monsanto as a prime example. The report titled, “The Sinister Monsanto Group: ‘Agent Orange’ to Genetically Modified Corn,” described a ‘new fangled cyber war’ being waged against both eco-activists and independent scientists by supporters and former employees of Monsanto, who are described as “operationally powerful assistants” and who have taken up sometimes high ranking posts in the US administration, regulatory authorities, and some of whom have connections deep within the military industrial establishment, including the CIA. “Monsanto contacts are known to the notorious former secret service agent Joseph Cofer Black, who helped formulate the law of the jungle in the fight against terrorists and other enemies. He is a specialist on dirty work, a total hardliner. He worked for the CIA for almost three decades, among other things as the head of anti-terroism. He later became vice president of the private security company Blackwater, which sent tens of thousands of soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan under US government orders.”

European Parliamentarians Call for Bradley Manning’s Freedom

Seventeen Members of European Parliament have written a letter calling on U.S. President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to free WikiLeaks whistle-blower Army Pfc. Bradley Manning.

The MEPs laud Manning for exposing “evidence of human rights abuses and apparent war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan” in accordance with international law.

. . . . . . . . .

In addition to the abuse Manning suffered, the MEPs specifically condemn the ‘aiding the enemy' offense with which Manning is charged, a capital offense that “would set a terrible precedent.”

“To consider releasing information about war crimes to the public to be ‘aiding the enemy’ would be a terrible setback for the defense of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law worldwide,” said Marisa Matias of Portugal, explaining why she joined 16 other Members of European Parliament in signing the letter.

Does the US Intelligence Community have NSA-sourced leverage that allows it to avoid — to refuse — being sequestered?  Is there a shadow government?  These are questions asked on this program.  Is Dick Cheney still in charge?  What's different?  “The Orwellian scale.”  “Post office taking a photo of every envelope.”

‘Frayed' from war: Spec ops reports alcohol abuse, stress, sleeplessness

After 12 years of war, the military's most elite forces are ‘frayed' and reporting struggles with alcohol, sleeplessness and emotional numbness.

In a survey of active-duty special operations forces, nearly 10 percent of respondents reported potential alcohol abuse or dependence, 8 percent said they were uncharacteristically irritable or angry, and more than one-quarter of those surveyed said they were sleeping five or fewer hours a night.

Many marriages among these frequently deployed troops also are struggling — more than 14 percent of survey respondents said they were less than happy with their marriages, while 17 percent said they wish they had never married.

The goal of the survey was to hear directly from the force, and U.S. Special Operations Command is implementing several initiatives to tackle these issues, including hiring more psychologists and nutritionists, and putting in place a system to give service members more time at home, said Navy Capt. Tom Chaby, a SEAL and director of SOCOM’s Preservation of the Force and Families Task Force.

“We knew the force was frayed, that there were challenges,” Chaby said.

Many of these challenges came to light when Adm. William McRaven, the SOCOM commander, conducted town hall meetings, held 455 focus groups and met with more than 7,000 of his troops shortly after he took command, and they were confirmed in the survey, Chaby said.
