His listeners are progressives –  politically very independent and don’t identify with Democrats or Republicans, but most would lean a bit towards being liberals but greatly disdaining orthodox liberals and liberal Democrats. Again, very independent thinkers, ranging from college kids to elderly former 1960’s former radicals and former hippies now retiring, and all kinds of people.  It’s a wonderful audience though, comprised of people who are very decent, intelligent, well-read, well-educated, and crave integrity and truth. BTW, his father was a policeman. He grew up in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Worst Farm Bill Ever!

Tell Congress to Fix It — And No Secret Farm Bills!

What's wrong with the U.S. House of Representative's version of the Farm Bill?

No Secret Farm Bills! The House's Republican leaders say they won't schedule the Farm Bill for a votebefore the old bill expires September 30, leaving it vulnerable to being used as a bargaining chip in the ongoing battles to cut the budget and extend Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy.Last Fall, the Farm Bill was caught up in the secretive super-committee process that ultimately failed, but there are Members of Congress who still insist on implementing  the cuts considered by the super-committee and some who would use these cuts to offset extending tax cuts. As the Hill reports, this would mean putting off the Farm Bill until after the elections and then it would be “wrapped into a giant lame-duck bill that also deals with expiring tax cuts and automatic, across-the-board spending cuts.”

In addition to protesting the bill's substance, we must also demand that the House stick to the normal democratic process, with recorded votes on the issues that matter most, rather than letting Congressional leaders decide things behind closed doors — no secret farm bills!

Want to learn more about why the Farm Bill is so important? Watch this video:

Phi Beta Iota:  Any company that creates suicidal seeds and sues farmers is the embodiment of a crime against humanity.

Michael Hyatt

4.0 out of 5 stars A few critiques, but overall, a solid book May 24, 2012

By Amy Andrews

While I've been a fan and follower of Michael Hyatt's blog for a long time, I did not receive a free copy of Platform. I confess, as much as I like his blog, I wasn't going to buy the book for two reasons:

1. Prior to the launch of Platform, he mentioned that much of the content was reworked material from old blog posts (which I assumed I had read previously).
2. Since I teach others how to start their own blog, I am already up to my eyeballs in information of this sort.

Therefore, I thought I would hold off and wait until I could get a copy at the library.

Incidentally, I bought the book the day it launched, swayed by all the 5-star reviews, enticed by the freebies he offered during launch week and intrigued by his launch process, which I wanted to watch firsthand (you just never know when that information will come in handy, you know). 😉

I have read the book in full.

Here are some of my thoughts, in no particular order:

Crowd-Funding is the financial concept.  It refers to raising money from individuals, whether one or many, whether small or large amounts.  It is the social networking alternative to borrowing money from legalized crime families.

Crowd-Sourcing is the intellectual concept.  Too many commentators are confusing this with Crowd-Funding.  This refers to the full and open presentation of relevant information to many, and the elicitation from any of the many of good ideas for innovation.

Crowd-Seedingis an emerging concept, centered on the empowerment of individuals with free cell phones and free air time in order to activate them as sources of truthful timely information within  their grasp “on the ground.”  Combined with near-real-time translation and international crisis mapping, this increases the capacity to create public intelligence from public information by an order of magnitude.  See also: Patrick Meier: Crowd-Seeding – This is HUGE Advance
