The below letter was sent to the White House point person for cyber-security in 1994. I introduced NSA to hackers (they brought two bus-loads to my 1993 conference), co-founded the Information Warfare Conference with Winn Schwartau, and was the opening speaker at Hackers on Planet Earth (HOPE) in 1994. Apart from ignoring us entirely — note that the senior cyber-security engineer at NSA co-signed our letter (he chose to be anonymous at the time) — the White House allowed the NSA to subvert the mediocre emergent communications and communications security protocols — CEOs of major corporations — including Carly Fiorina — violated their fiduciary duties to stockholders and deliberately gutted their security with infantile backdoors provided by NSA for its own convenience. It can be said that NSA's subversion of US cyber-security spawned the Chinese and Russian hacker communities.

Whatever your take on the 2016 U.S. presidential election, it is becoming obvious that one of the biggest losers of the campaign was the mainstream media.
After generations of relying upon newspapers and network news to tell us what is going on in the world – including information about a candidate, their experience, views and policies – Americans are now finding their news sources to be increasingly inaccurate, biased, agenda-laced, and as politically motivated as the politicians themselves. The new buzz-term for this phenomenon is fake news.
The cloud was supposed to save organizations a bundle on servers, but now we learn from Datamation that “Enterprises Struggle with Managing Cloud Costs.” The article cites a recent report from Dimensional Research and cloud-financial-management firm Cloud Cruiser, which tells us, for one thing, that 92 percent of organizations surveyed now use the cloud. Researchers polled 189 IT pros at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Global Summit in Chicago this past April, where they also found that 95 percent of respondents expect their cloud usage to expand over the next year. However, organizations may wish to pause and reconsider their approach before throwing more money at cloud systems. Writer Pedro Hernandez reports:
