SchwartzReport: National Legalization of Marijuana Comes to the Americas — Ham-Fisted US Attack on Bolivian President Sparks Regional Push-Back

Cultural Intelligence, Ethics, Government

I predict Uruguay will do this, it will be seen as a success, and it will be adopted by other South American countries. In the process of this occurring it will become tied up with the movement of Latin America out from under U.S. influence. And the impetus, the offense, that has set this on fire was America's stopping President Morales' plane. That event, so badly bungled, was an offense of honor that will not be forgotten.

Little Greenies: Proof that Kids are Environmentalists

We are born with a natural concern for the environment—even if we don't always hang onto it

To test where living things, particularly plants, fall on this do-no-harm spectrum, Training College researcher José Domingo Villaroel assembled a sample group of 118 boys and girls, ages 4 to 7, from local public schools. He started with the basics, showing the kids two sets of four pictures each—a dog, a tree a bird and a flower; and the sun, clouds, a car and a motorcycle—and asked which of them was alive and which not. That, as it turned out, was a trickier question than it would seem. The youngest kids particularly would often exclude the tree from the living things category but include the car or the motorcycle. Self-locomotion, it seemed, was the defining quality here.

3-D Map Of Universe Shows Positions Of Known Galaxies In Unprecedented Detail (VIDEO)

An international team of astronomers and astrophysicists have created a video spotlighting their new 3-D map of the known universe. The map was created from a collection of galaxy redshifts — observations of light emitted from galaxies as they move away from the earth.

“In terms of moving — pardon the pun — pictures, this is by far the best I have seen among numerous motion pictures showing where we are at, literally and figuratively, in the biggest picture of all,” Ian Steer, co-leader of the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database of galaxy Distances, commented on the video on Vimeo.

As seen in the video, the map shows the location of all the visible galaxies in our universe as far away as 340 million light-years.

Whatever the truth turns out to be, this accelerating trend is unnerving. One way or another Big Brother benefits. Public intimidation via innuendo is often enough to dissuade potential dissidents from sticking their neck out in the future.

Description: “In today’s video, AMTV investigates the possibility that elite programmer Barnaby Jack was murdered by the NSA. Jack was expected to reveal breaking new technology this week at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas Nevada that would highlight a security breach in millions of pacemakers and insulin pumps worn by people around the world. We therefore ask the question, “Who had the most to gain by the elimination of Barnaby Jack?”

Escaping the Left-Right Box-In Match

The “transpartisan” movement is only the tip of a very large and long-term “upwising” of people Left and Right (and otherwise) who realize common ground exists with people they thought of as polar opposites from them politically.

I often say “Things are getting better and better and worse and worse faster and faster simultaneously.”

Well, it seems that even as polarization is increasing it is starting to dissolve into a more productive reality. Those still firmly embedded in the polarized worldview can’t quite grasp this.

In a blog post entitled “The Perennially ‘Unusual’ Yet Somehow Ubiquitous Left-Right Alliance: Towards Acknowledging an Anti-Establishment Center“.  Sam Husseini chronicles an alignment that shows up over and over between some Left and Right camps on certain issues. He notes that this perennial alignment is almost always viewed as “strange” by mainstream media and pundits.

“Every time you have this convergence of progressives and conservatives against the establishment,” he writes, “it’s regarded as ‘unusual’ ‘odd’ or ‘bizarre’ — even though it keeps coming up on issue after issue: war, military spending, trade, corporate power, Wall Street, fossil fuel subsidies, as well as — in the case of the NSA spying on the citizenry — the central issue of Constitutional rights and civil liberties.”

Husseini goes on to quote dozens of news stories from the last 30 years – all of which describe each new example of this perennial phenomena in the same startled language as if it had never occurred before.

We see this today as the most vibrant current ad hoc Left-Right alliance protests NSA surveillance.

A respected commentator in French (here is Google translation to English):

The new American superpower

A new ideological and geopolitical discourse is now to appear in the American economic and military circles political leaders. Faced with the rise of Chinese power, soon to be, inevitably, the largest economy in the world in terms of production, we begin to hear a new speech in Washington: The world's leading power for at least two decades to come, will not China, but the whole formed by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This set, they say, should be considered as a single country: economic integration, which began with the introduction of NAFTA, is now well advanced. The three countries have the same ideology, the same interest in defense and cooperate closely on all fronts, economic, cultural and military. Mexico has become a modern country where the rule of law is respected, as in the other two countries. Mexico and Canada Americanized high speed and the economic and cultural integration is considerable

This scenario is not unlikely. This set is indeed the first power in the world and will be long: a current total population of 470 million, which will be 540 million in 2030. A total GDP of 19,000 billion, which will be at least 25,000 billion by 2018. In both cases, much higher than China.

The United States, who are naturally a leader of the coalition, would delay and, as the Roman Empire, the time of its decline. All American strategy will therefore focus on the success of this economic integration, complemented by political integration, using for it the mass media. And integration may be easier to achieve than that tempt members of the European Union: The Americans are only three, with a dominant power may try to dictate.

This would have significant geopolitical consequences. Domination of North America to South America, and Europe, which does not measure, for example, the consequences of such a union on commercial negotiation begins with the United States alone.
