The Data That Turned the World Upside Down

Psychologist Michal Kosinski developed a method to analyze people in minute detail based on their Facebook activity. Did a similar tool help propel Donald Trump to victory? Two reporters from Zurich-based Das Magazin went data-gathering.

Phi Beta Iota: Cambridge Analytica appears to have some deep talents but it is also being grossly over-sold — there appears to be a very calculated hype campaign underway across various media. The bottom line is that Cambridge Analytica did not win the election for Donald Trump, and indeed got it wrong: at noon on Election Day they told The Donald  that he had a 20% chance of winning.

Is Facebook Permitting Pedophilia and Child Porn on its Platform?

While Facebook facilitates facial recognition and vacuums up user data by the exa-byte (look it up), they draw the line at being asked to clamp down on child porn being passed around on its servers.

In a shocking story putting the massive social network in a very seedy light, Gizmodo reported last week, “When BBC journalists discovered child porn on the network and sent those images to Facebook last week, the company reported the BBC to police in the UK for the distribution of illegal images.”

That’s right. When informed that pedophiles were passing around pictures of children in the vilest, most unholy ways, Facebook shot the messenger. Well, Facebook asked police to do it for them — metaphorically of course.

Intelligence Industry Becoming Privatized and Concentrated

Monopolies aren’t just for telecoms and zipper manufacturers. The Nation reveals a much scarier example in its article, “5 Corporations Now Dominate Our Privatized Intelligence Industry.” Reporter Tim Shorrock outlines the latest merger that brings us to this point, one between Pentagon &  NSA contractor Leidos Holdings and a division of Lockheed Martin called Information Systems and Global Solutions. Shorrock writes:

The sheer size of the new entity makes Leidos one of the most powerful companies in the intelligence-contracting industry, which is worth about $50 billion today. According to a comprehensive study I’ve just completed on public and private employment in intelligence, Leidos is now the largest of five corporations that together employ nearly 80 percent of the private-sector employees contracted to work for US spy and surveillance agencies.

Alphabet Google Smart Software Cannot Define Hate

I read “Alphabet’s Hate Fighting AI Doesn’t Understand Hate Yet.” That struck me as odd. I learned in “Google’s AI Learned to Be Highly Aggressive When Stressed.” I assumed that an aggressive AI would take on an online dictionary, wrest the definition of hate from the Web site, and stuff the bits into the voracious multi petabyte storage system available to Deep Mind.

The issue of hate is relevant to hate speech. I think this is a gentle way of saying that unless text has some cue like a known entity which outputs nasty grams or a list of words likely to be used to convey hate, the smart software is performing like most smart software; that is, somewhere in the 40 to 65 percent accuracy range.

Computer scientists and others on the internet have found the system unable to identify a wide swath of hateful comments, while categorizing innocuous word combinations like “hate is bad” and “garbage truck” as overwhelmingly toxic.

Leaked CIA Document: CIA Uses “False Flag” Cyberattacks to Blame Russian Hackers

WikiLeaks Press Release on CIA Vault 7 8,761 Items

Since 2001 the CIA has gained political and budgetary preeminence over the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA). The CIA found itself building not just its now infamous drone fleet, but a very different type of covert, globe-spanning force — its own substantial fleet of hackers.

The Independent Media Defeats Google’s Censorship Practices-Natural News Restored

One has to remember, that the Independent Media brings the public the truth where the MSM and the social media monopolies obscure the truth and the illegal actions of their benefactors.

Mike Adams’ Natural News restored by Goggle after massive takedown

“Through this entire process, Natural News was constantly being called a liar for failing to remove something that Google flatly refused to identify. In essence, we were charged with a ‘crime’ by Google, yet Google refused to provide any details of the crime, nor any evidence of the crime, nor any tool whereby we could reproduce Google’s claimed ‘redirect’.”

Information Wars: Wikipedia Suppression of SouthFront

A few days ago Wikipedia announced its intention to remove its entry on SouthFront explaining it had an issue with the pro-Russian position of the project. The decision implies that entries on CNN, Euronews, RT, Russia Insider, Belingcat and several other contemporary information activities ought to be removed. Politicized efforts to limit information by Wikipedia hurt not so much the SouthFront project but rather the idea of free access to knowledge from various points of view.
