Whoa. I read “Palantir Valued At $20 Billion In New Funding Round.” Palantir is not exactly pumping out the marketing collateral. The company is making sales to those who want to squeeze “nuggets” from the hydraulic flow of digital information. What’s remarkable is that the company is selling into a sector which wants to buy, yet Palantir continues to collect money from funding sources.
Is the company in the business of processing data or in the business of making presentations to venture types with open checkbooks?
The arguments for fast-track are completely ridiculous.
The terms of the TPP and the TiSA are so secret that drafts of the negotiations are to remain classified for four yearsor five years, respectively, after the deals have been passed into law. How can laws be enforced against people and governments who are not allowed to know what was negotiated?
The TPP, TiSA and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (or TTIP, which covers Europe) will collectively encompass three-fourths of the world’s GDP; and they ultimately seek to encompass nearly 90 percent of GDP. Despite this enormous global impact, fast-track authority would allow the President to sign the deals before their terms have been made public, and send implementing legislation to Congress that cannot be amended or filibustered and is not subject to the constitutional requirement of a two-thirds treaty vote. This report has good news. Glyphosate is the modern DDT — whose lingering presence now decades later it should be noted is still killing people. Like DDT it has been hugely profitable, but grotesquely destructive, not only as intended, but in other ways as well. Now a gathering resistance driven from the bottom up challenges this corporate greed, and is succeeding.
Monsanto Herbicide Faces Global Fallout After World Health Organization Labels It a Probable Carcinogen
The fight against glyphosate is gaining momentum, and where governments are not stepping up to enforce bans, citizens and private companies are taking it upon themselves with major successes.
Here is some more on the decline of coal. This is largely a citizen action, and it shows what the concerted power of individual choice can accomplish. This is good news for the Earth and the beings that inhabit it.
I follow Iceland because like the Scandanavian countries it is one of the nations where the new wellness oriented policies are developing. This one is very dramatic and will change the world's economy as it is more widely adopted. I don't think it will happen in America because the banks have so many liegemen in the Congress, as Paul Krugman points out.
TPP: A Bloodless Coup Imposing Tyranny May be Near Upon Us [2015]
Richard Martin, an Internet financial radio pundit, sent the text below, written by Joe Firestone, to those on his email list. Note Martin's key take-away comment on this text:
“The governing functions of the TPP regime would not be exercised with the consent of the governed. The combination of the vague definition of “investment,” the ISDS criminogenic tribunals, and the elevation of the principle of “expectation of profits” above the principles of “public purpose,” “consent of the governed,” and “separation of powers,” is tantamount to the overthrow of democracy, preserving its form in national level elections, but emptying its elections of meaningful content in mandating change and conferring legitimacy on national authorities. And, further, the ISDS tribunals if in operation, would not exercise just powers, but only illegitimate power derived from the TPP agreement itself, negotiated in secret, passed without benefit of open debate based on the secret text of the TPP, and intended to remain secret for years after the TPP is signed. That makes TPP decision making, performed without the consent of the governed, tyranny, and makes those who want to pass the TPP guilty of conspiracy to create tyrannical rule of the few over the people of the United States and other TPP member nations.”
