Obama Declares Self-Determination To Be A Threat To US National Security

In his March 6 Executive Order, “Blocking Property of Certain Persons Contributing to the Situation in Ukraine,” Obama declares that support for Crimean self-determination constitutes “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.” http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/03/06/executive-order-blocking-property-certain-persons-contributing-situation

Obama and the lawyers who drafted his executive order did not notice that the way the order is drafted it applies to Obama, to the unelected coup government in Kiev, and to the Washington and EU regimes. The order says that any person “responsible for or complicit in, or to have engaged in, directly or indirectly . . . actions or policies that undermine democratic processes or institutions in Ukraine” is subject to having his assets frozen.

Washington and the EU are the only two governments whose personnel have undermined democratic processes and institutions in Ukraine by overthrowing the elected government and imposing an unelected one.

NASA-funded study: industrial civilisation headed for ‘irreversible collapse'?

Natural and social scientists develop new model of how ‘perfect storm' of crises could unravel global system

A new study sponsored by Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center has highlighted the prospect that global industrial civilisation could collapse in coming decades due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution.

Noting that warnings of ‘collapse' are often seen to be fringe or controversial, the study attempts to make sense of compelling historical data showing that “the process of rise-and-collapse is actually a recurrent cycle found throughout history.” Cases of severe civilisational disruption due to “precipitous collapse – often lasting centuries – have been quite common.”

The research project is based on a new cross-disciplinary ‘Human And Nature DYnamical' (HANDY) model, led by applied mathematician Safa Motesharri of the US National Science Foundation-supported National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center, in association with a team of natural and social scientists. The study based on the HANDY model has been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed Elsevier journal, Ecological Economics.

Anyone who reads the works of the late Chalmers Johnson will have an excellent understanding of the role that the U.S. national-security state, especially the vast military empire and military-industrial complex, plays in America’s foreign-policy woes. I particularly recommend his four books: Blowback, The Sorrows of Empire, Nemesis, and Dismantling the Empire. For those who would prefer to begin with online articles, here is a link to an article I wrote in 2011 that contains a list of some of the online articles written by Johnson.

Among the most insightful articles written by Johnson are two that are pertinent today, given the controversy that has erupted over the CIA’s spying on Congress. The titles of those two articles are: “Abolish the CIA” and “Improve the CIA? Better to Abolish It.”

I find it difficult to judge. It is interesting to read the comments by various ‘ anonymous' people. Much of the confusion seems to be related to a bad translation of Ukrainian to English. There is a tremendous information war going on. Today Kerry and Merkel have stepped up the pressure by giving very strong and threatening statements. Yatsenyuk spoke at the UNSC. The first oligarch has been arrested abroad At the same time both sides are deploying and positing military forces. The situation is very tense and there are all kinds of shady paramilitary militia-like groups running round that could create incidents that could lead to unwanted escalation. I was surprised that we've seen not more incidents yet and that Ukrainians have been very calm and did not let themselves be provoked. We have to see what will happen tomorrow and how the West will respond. I am getting more and more worried that we are slowly moving to a military confrontation. A false flag could speed up developments. It all reminds me of the Balkan war in the 1990s. The EU and the West were very slow in their reactions and did not want to believe that a war was coming and hoped that diplomacy could solve the problems. Currently many politicians have stated that nobody wants war and that we have to let diplomacy do its work while nobody seems to see the military preparations.

Florida Makes Off-Grid Living Illegal – Mandates All Homes Must Be Connected To An Electricity Grid

It’s no secret that an opposition to sustainable living exists. Earlier this year, Texas state brought several SWAT teams to a sustainable community and threatened to shut it down. Each one of the community members were initially handcuffed at gunpoint. It was called “The Garden of Eden Community,” and was totally self sustainable. You can read more about that here.

off grid This time, it’s Robin Speronis that’s come under fire. She lives off the grid in Florida, completely independent of the city’s water and electric system. A few weeks ago, officials ruled her off-grid home illegal. Officials cited the International Property Maintenance Code, which mandates that homes be connected to an electricity grid and a running water source. That’s just like saying our dependency on corporations isn’t even a choice. The battle to live without most utilities has been ongoing for Robin, the self-sufficient woman has lived for more than a year and a half using solar energy, a propane camping stove and rain water.

US Policy of Isolating Russia and Expanding NATO Is a Dismal Failure

The hazards associated with American foreign policy since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 should appear obvious to all, because it is precisely this policy that has caused the crisis in Ukraine with all its negative consequences for the coming months and years.

President Barack Obama was candid in admitting it on March 3, 2014: “we are indicating to the Russians [that] if in fact they continue on the current trajectory they’re on, then we are examining a whole series of steps — economic, diplomatic— that will isolate Russia.”

Well, it is precisely this desire to expand NATO and to isolate Russia by incorporating all the countries bordering Russia into NATO; i.e., a strategy of geopolitical and military encirclement of Russia, which has provoked that country when it felt threatened in its national security.

This is easy to understand.
