Alternative Media is Winning

Is the tide finally turning, is the public becoming better informed despite the 24 hour-a-day propaganda onslaught of mainstream media produced by the 1%? It seems so, as this article implies that for the scions of the Establishment and the 1% and their propaganda organs to turn their attention to alternative media and independent research, that is, media and information not under the control of the 1% and their designated dupes, could only mean their mainstream media and information outlets are losing the war against the public's ability to find the truth about the global, regional and local machinations of the Elite, hence the new initiative underway, chronicled in this article, to attack and discredit alternative media under the loaded-term guise of “conspiracy theory.”

What Is (and Is Not) Left-Wing?

by Kieran Kelly

Dissident Voce / May 29th, 2014

EXTRACT

The term left-wing comes from those who during the French Revolution believed in a society based on the revolutionary ideals that had animated the masses. Over time there has been a consensus among left-wing movements on many issues (I exclude here state regimes which adopt left-wing rhetoric, but which, more often than not, are actually right-wing in their nature). My purpose here is to produce a comprehensive and inclusive list. The list below gives an idea of a maximal left-wing philosophy, like a platonic ideal.

Humanitarian UAV Network: Strategy for 2014-2015

The purpose of the Humanitarian UAV Network (UAViators) is to guide the responsible and safe use of small UAVs in humanitarian settings while promoting information sharing and enlightened policymaking. As I’ve noted in the past, UAVs are already being used to support a range of humanitarian efforts. So the question is not if, but rather how to facilitate the inevitable expanded use of UAVs in a responsible and safe manner. This is just one of many challenging questions that UAViators was created to manage.

UAViators has already drafted a number of documents, including a Code of Conduct and an Operational Check-List for the use of UAVs in humanitarian settings.

SchwartzReport: NSA Collects Millions of Facial Images — and Images of Human Interactions — Each Day

And the surveillance state just keeps oozing out across our lives like a toxic smog. It will soon be possible to track any person, almost anywhere. There is already no problem turning on your phone's camera, or microphone. Moving through any public space will result in multiple images, which are keyed to every electronic interaction you have.

Report: NSA Collects Millions of Facial Images Per Day
DANA FORD – CNN

The National Security Agency is reportedly capturing millions of images per day to feed facial recognition programs. Citing top-secret documents obtained by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, the New York Times reported the agency ‘s reliance on such technology has grown in recent years.

New software allows the NSA to “exploit the flood of images included in emails, text messages, social media, videoconferences and other communications,” the newspaper said. “The agency intercepts ‘millions of images per day' – including about 55,000 ‘facial recognition quality images' – which translate into ‘tremendous untapped potential,'” the newspaper reported, citing documents from 2011.

Chuck Spinney: Wallerstein on China-Russia Grand Strategy

02 China, 06 Russia, Strategy
Chuck Spinney

The self-referencing chattering class is up in arms about the $400 billion Russia-China gas deal, seeing it and the associated Russia-China alliance as a threat to the grand strategic ambitions of the United States to remain, in the words of President Obama at West Point, the world’s “indispensable”* power.  Taking place against the immediate backdrop of the prevailing US narrative** describing the Ukraine Crisis and Russia’s annexation of Crimea, the gas deal is manna from heaven for the unreconstructed cold warriors and neocons in the press, the Pentagon, the defense industry, and the State Department who are fanning anti-Russian/anti-Putin hysteria with prognostications that the US, being on the cusp of a new Cold War, should not cut back its defense spending or its propensity to meddle in the affairs of others.

Viewed thru Russian and Chinese eyes, however, the gas deal may be part of a defensive grand strategy aimed at evolving pathways around Russia’s “NATO expansion problem” and China’s “pivot east” problem.  The attached essay by Immanuel Wallerstein, a traditional ‘balance of power' scholar (in the best sense of the phrase), presents a fascinating speculation in this regard.  Only time will tell if he is on to something, but his hypothesis is well worth thinking about.

I have reformatted Wallerstein’s essay to highlight his main points … if you find this distracting, the original is at this link.

Invite your attention to message below.  Then, invite your attention to what's at the link contained within the message:

1. Bergdahl father tweet, apparently now removed.

2. Below tweet, message from a Dan Witmer, who asserts to have been colleague Bowe Bergdahl and further asserts SGT Bowe departed camp with knife, compass, and water, found gaps in defenses, and defected to Taliban.

Beard = Fuck Obama Fuck USA
Beard = Fuck Obama Fuck USA

Still further and most disturbing, he additionally additionally asserts that (a) USG has long known of other assertions and that the units incurred deaths trying to find SGT Bowe.  I don't know if all this is true or not, but I think it makes wonderful grist for counterintelligence and criminal investigators who should routinely debrief SGT Bowe during the standard “POW reintegration” process.  I also think the assertions are sufficiently specific that a skilled polygrapher could construct a valid “specific issue” polygraph test (as opposed to the fishing expedition screening exams most frequently constructed).

SchwartzReport: Joseph Stiglitz on Corporate Tax Dodging

It's perfectly clear that the cuddling of the uber-rich must stop. Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz makes the point as well as anyone could.

Joseph E. Stiglitz: Let's Stop Subsidizing Tax Dodgers
BILL MOYERS – Moyers & Company

A new report by Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglitz for the Roosevelt Institute suggests that paying our fair share of taxes and cracking down on corporate tax dodgers could be a cure for inequality and a faltering economy.

This week on Moyers & Company, Stiglitz tells Bill that Apple, Google, GE and a host of other Fortune 500 companies are creating what amounts to ‘an unlimited IRA for corporations.” The result? Vast amounts of lost revenue for our treasury and the exporting of much-needed jobs to other countries.
