Sigh. I was not going to comment on David Patraeus gross dereliction of duty but several colleagues are totally pissed off and they are correct to be angry. Here are a mix of supposition and fact along with my conclusions on this sorry disgrace to the Republic. HOWEVER, I conclude this is not about Patraeus — many others should be indicted along with him and many others have committed high crimes and misdemeanors that exhonerate him in relative terms.

UPDATED to integrate specific observations from IDENS A-C.

UPDATED to add key paragraphs from Marcy Wheeler at SALON and Ray McGovern.

Good News and Bad News: WWW3 Will be a Short War

Alexey Navalny, a major opposition leader to Putin, was murdered in Russia, and likely he was a victim of a false flag planned and executed by Western neocons. As Wayne Madsen commented, “Neocons issue their demands for “regime change” in Russia, minutes after Boris Nemtsov is shot gangland-style near Kremlin. This is an obvious set-up like the Politkovskaya, Klebnikov, and Litvinenko murders to embarrass Putin's government and comes days after release of a Stratfor report predicting the downfall of Putin and the splitting up of Russia into smaller states.

Why the Iraq Offensive Will Fail

Unless the president faces up to the real threat, the plans to retake Mosul don’t have a chance.

Politico, 20 February 2015

We, as a nation, must accept and face the reality that we and other contributing nations of the world are at war, and not just in Iraq. We are in a global war with a radical and violent form of the Islamic religion, and it is irresponsible and dangerous to deny it. This enemy is far broader than the 40,000 or so fighters in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. There also exists a large segment of this radical version of Islam in over 90 nations abroad as well as here at home. Just ask those countries from which foreign fighters are flowing into the Levant to support this “jihad.”

Antechinus: Ukraine Selling NATO Weapons UPDATE 1

On the first day of the negotiations in Minsk a bill to “provide lethal weapons to the Government of Ukraine in order to defend itself against Russian-backed rebel separatists in eastern Ukraine” was introduced in the US Congress. Its sponsor, Sen. James Inhofe, understands that Kiev will inevitably violate the cease-fire and that Washington will soon have to explain why the militias in the devastated region are in possession of such a vast number of captured weapons originating from NATO countries. Senator Inhofe’s bill is not about rendering military assistance to the government in Kiev, but is rather a way to legitimize the shipments that are already being sent. Only the most aged, decrepit weapons are ending up in the region – Ukrainian officials are re-exporting everything that is worthy of resale to third countries, including Syria. No one can guarantee that the weapons that will pass to Ukraine legally will not soon be used against America’s interests in global hot spots. It seems that this threat is the last thing on the minds of US senators. Learn more.
