Navy SEALs forgot to bring a tape measure

The odds that Osama bin Laden was the mysterious figure seen walking around the compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan were estimated by U.S. intelligence at between 60 and 80 percent. When the Navy SEALs shot the tall figure on the upper floor of the compound, fatally hitting him in the chest and near his right eye, the next step was to get a positive ID. They planned to use several reference points, including facial recognition and eventually DNA when the body was transported back to Bagram airbase in Afghanistan.

Another measurement was to determine the height of the corpse. Bin Laden is listed on his FBI most wanted poster as being between 6-feet 4-inches and 6-feet 6-inches and weighing  about 160 pounds.

Woodward also learned that bin Laden was named “the Pacer” as the intelligence gathering proceeded. Satellite imagery showed a person walking in the compound daily, but the face and exact height of the pacer were not identifiable.

Phi Beta Iota: We suppose a tape measure might have been required if there was no intent of bringing back the body, but this goes from the ridiculous to the sublimely insane. The remarks about not being able to tell the height of the “Pacer” or get a look at his face are inconsistent with what is known about high-resolution imagery, both from satellites today (3″ in 1994) and from air-breathing micro-drones.  These people really do seem to be making this stuff up as they go.   We also consider anything published by Bob Woodward, David Ignatius, or any of the usual suspects from the New York Times and Washington Post to be suspect.  This operation cannot stand up to persistent structured scrutiny.  It completes the circle back to the lies that led to Iraq and the lies and high crimes that allowed 9/11 to happen “with emphasis.”

U.S. officials unveil videos of bin Laden

(CNN) — Intelligence officials on Saturday unveiled five different videos of Osama bin Laden that were confiscated from the deadly raid at his Pakistan compound — part of an information haul considered to be the most significant amount of intelligence ever collected from a senior terrorist.

In one video, bin Laden is wearing what a wool cap with a blanket draped around his shoulders. He is holding a TV clicker and rocking in his chair. Bin Laden, sporting a gray beard, is seen flipping through a selection of satellite channels as he views video footage of himself.

One of the videos is a message to the United States officials believe was recorded in October or November. Officials didn't play the audio because, they said, it would be inappropriate. In that video, bin Laden's beard has been dyed black.

The three other videos are practice sessions for videos he was planning to release to the world.

A senior intelligence official briefing reporters at the Pentagon said last week's raid by U.S. forces yielded a significant amount of intelligence, and a special federal taskforce — including members of the CIA and FBI — is combing through the material.

The officials say the DNA evidence unquestionably shows that the person shot and killed in the Pakistan compound was bin Laden.

Phi Beta Iota: Emphasis added.  This is the truth-teller.  CIA is scrambling to counter-attack the declarations from Pakistan to India to Virginia to California that this is all a hoax.  To better understand their trying to “re-set” the narrative it helps to understand that after 2001 most Bin Laden videos and audios are considered to be fake, manufactured by the CIA.  See  Bin Laden Show XVIII: TheSOTTReport — US Government Psy-Ops – The ‘Killing’ of Bin Laden for a discussion of this point.  We continue to believe that the “intelligence trove” is false, planted by CIA for the SEALs to recover.  We are beginning to believe that the President, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense as well as the SEAL chain of command might have lied to by CIA and its captive Director.  Forensics on the ORIGINALS of all the CDs and tapes should reveal country of origin and probably year of origin as well.  The film of Bin Laden using a clicker to watch himself is an American's idea of B Roll during a phoney session–it strikes us as sacreligious and beyond belief if it were the real deal.  We're pretty sure CIA cannot stand that level of scrutiny.  Congressional hearings are required, and someone like Britt Snider should be brought in to walk the cat back.

Phi Beta Iota: Debka is not questioning the “fact of” Bin Laden's existence, we are.  What Debka does provide is a marvelous context for understanding both why the US Administration blew it on the Arab Spring it neither anticipated nor understood, and why CIA has been given so much lattitude.  The big question–and the Presidential Study Directive  11 of August 2010 will be helpful–is the degree to which the President of the USA has been an unwitting dupe or a full participant in what we believe to the hoax of the century.

White House Insider: Obama Hesitated – Panetta Issued Order to Kill Osama Bin Laden

I have been told by more than one source that Leon Panetta was directing the operation with both his own CIA operatives, as well as direct contacts with military – both entities were reporting to Panetta only at this point, and not the President of the United States.  There was not going to be another delay as had happened 24 hour earlier.  The operation was at this time effectively unknown to President Barack Obama or Valerie Jarrett and it remained that way until AFTER it had already been initiated.  President Obama was literally pulled from a golf outing and escorted back to the White House to be informed of the mission.  Upon his arrival there was a briefing held which included Bill Daley, John Brennan, and a high ranking member of the military.  When Obama emerged from the briefing, he was described as looking “very confused and uncertain.”  The president was then placed in the situation room where several of the players in this event had already been watching the operation unfold.  Another interesting tidbit regarding this is that the Vice President was already “up to speed” on the operation.  A source indicated they believe Hillary Clinton had personally made certain the Vice President was made aware of that day’s events before the president was.  The now famous photo released shows the particulars of that of that room and its occupants.  What that photo does not communicate directly is that the military personnel present in that room during the operation unfolding, deferred to either Hillary Clinton or Robert Gates.  The president’s role was minimal, including their acknowledging of his presence in the room.

In my initial communication to you of these events I described what unfolded as a temporary Coup initiated by high ranking intelligence and military officials. I stand by that term.

Phi Beta Iota: It has been well-known since the Cuban Missile Crisis that the President of the USA is not actually in charge, and that the military-industrial complex has its own chain of command.  Less well known, but documented in Morton Halperin's still-relevant Bureaucratic Politics and Foreign Policy, is the reality that Rule One in Washington is “Lie to the President if you can get away with it.”

US Knew Where Osama Was Since 2005

The unredacted Guantanamo files show clearly  that the trail to Abbottabad was known to the US intelligence services at least since 2005, when al-Libi, another Abbottabad dweller, was captured.

Timing is everything. The US President announced killing of Osama bin Laden just as Wikileaks completed its publication of Guantanamo files. Was it coincidence? If not, what was the connection?

An answer to this question is directly connected with the cross and double cross accusations exchanged in the murky world where the intelligence services meet mainstream media.

Publication of the US secret papers, the Guantanamo Files, was done almost simultaneously by two competing media groups.

  • One was the Wikileaks of Julian Assange and their partners The Washington Post, The Daily Telegraph, the French Le Monde.
  • Another one was The New York Times, The Guardian, the Israeli Haaretz.

Phi Beta Iota: Apart from the presumed fact that Bin Laden actually died in late 2001 and was then “kept alive” as a covert action against the American people, the author provides an absolutely riveting account of how Guantanamo–and Wikileaks–might have played into the fevered minds that thought up the Bin Laden show and–according to our next post–“over-ruled” the President who was reluctant to go along.  By the by, although US “covert operations” tend to be fairly stupid, a well-known ruse for influencing presidents is to insert information into puported interrogations and pretend it was extracted.  This “political” covert action appears to have been in the planning stages for some time.

During his interview with the Alex Jones Show yesterday, Pieczenik also asserted he was directly told by a prominent general that 9/11 was a stand down and a false flag operation, and that he is prepared to go to a grand jury to reveal the general’s name.

“They ran the attacks,” said Pieczenik, naming Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Stephen Hadley, Elliott Abrams, and Condoleezza Rice amongst others as having been directly involved.
