This report should outrage you. As you read it remember that in the United Kingdom in 2014 British police officers pulled their weapons and fired three — that's right, 3 — shots. That's fewer shots than there were wounds on Michael Brown's or Walter Scott's bodies. It should be pointed out that this carnage is occurring in the United States that has seen a sharp decrease in crime, particularly violent crime.

Disclosure soon, we think.

For the first time, scientists find complex organic molecules in an infant star system

In a new study published Wednesday in Nature, astronomers found the first signs of the complex, carbon-based molecules that make life possible on Earth in a protoplanetary disk; the region where cosmic building blocks gather to create planets in a brand-new star system. The cyanides found there are essential to life as we know it: without them, there would be no proteins.

Crowdsourcing Point Clouds for Disaster Response

Point Clouds, or 3D models derived from high resolution aerial imagery, are in fact nothing new. Several software platforms already exist to reconstruct a series of 2D aerial images into fully fledged 3D-fly-through models. Check out these very neat examples from my colleagues at Pix4D and SenseFly: Read more.

Robert Steele: The Education of Your Children Is Your True Legacy

For me life has meaning at two levels: truth, and family.

The truth is, as John D. Caputo says, “philosophy in transit.” One’s relation to the truth — and whether one places any emphasis on understanding the truth, defining the truth, living in truth — is the cosmic meaning of life.

At a second level, and I grieve that I did not learn this until my third of three sons, the meaning of life changes once you have children. Before children, one must strive to be all they can be, to contribute and impact on community, nation, world, and profession. After having children, there is no more important charge than to help those children be better than oneself. Balancing external accomplishments and internal family commitments should not be an option. If you have a child you have a mission. The education of your child or children is your true legacy — everything else is secondary.
