I think this is an excellent essay on the state of voting and voters in the election coming up. I find political ads offensive, ads in general come to that and mute the sound, maybe you do the same. But I have come to realize the truth in John Cassidy's essay. Some very significant fraction of Americans has just tuned out or, perversely, just votes a party ticket without understanding the truth about the candidates or the issues. That is the only explanation I can see for the continuing voting that occurs in Red value states, even though the policies they are voting for are horribly damaging to their lives. This also explains I think how people like Louie Gohmert or Steve King, or Ted Cruz remain in office.

Jack Davis, dean of analysts and integrity czar for the CIA, was recognized today with a lifetime achievement award from the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAIE), Dr. Bill Spracher Chapter Chair presiding. After laudatory anecdotes from several senior members, Jack offered a few comments centered around his learning over time that intelligence professionals must not only be doctors to the policy client, but lawyers as well. Implicit in his remarks and his lifetime of service as a trusted briefer was a third role, that of  teacher. During the Q&A he was asked about a fourth role, positing a corrupt government, that of priest.

We divided the twenty questions into four groups, focusing on the four stages of generating an analytic product:

1. How do I get started?

2. Where is the information I need?

3. What is my argument?

4. How do I convey my message most effectively?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Status Quo Book, Improved from 1st Edition, Still Pulls Punches, October 30, 2014

This is a very fine book, not least because of its inclusion of Jack Davis (search for <analytic tradecraft> as well as Carmen Medina (see them both at Phi Beta Iota the Public Intelligence Blog ), but it must still be categorized as a status quo book. Despite improvements from the 1st edition the authors still pull some punches — I dare hope that by the 3rd edition — and the book is certainly worthy of going forward — they will get tougher, perhaps in a new final chapter — Where Did We Go Wrong, Who Did We Ignore, How Do We Get It Right Now?

Anonymous ‎Million Mask March 2014 [5th of November]

Be aware, Anonymous is going to hold the Million Mask March on the 5th of November. The Million Mask March has been promoted on social media networks since the last Million Mask March which took place on the 5th of November in 2013. This time it will be bigger and better. The reason behind this is pretty simple, more people are going to be involved in the Million Mask March. The last Million Mask March took place in more than 477 cities.
