Used to perpetuate mono-culture this technology could produce disaster. But used as described it could do great good in restoring the Amazon rain forest, for instance. It would make the task doable.

Ex-NASA Engineer to Plant One Billion Trees a Year Using Drones

The company’s CEO, who might be called ‘Johnny Apple Drone’, thinks it should be possible to plant up to 36,000 trees a day, and at around 15% of the cost of traditional methods. And they aren’t just looking to create plantations of trees, but full ecosystems.

U.S. Blocked Declaration of “Right to Health Care”, Says Bolivia’s President at OAS Summit

Bolivia’s President Evo Morales has blamed U.S. President Barack Obama for the failure of the recent OAS (Organization of American States) Summit of the Americas to issue a final declaration, and he says that a major sticking point for Mr. Obama was Obama’s opposition to a provision in the proposed declaration that would have said that health care is “a human right.” Mr. Obama insisted that it’s instead a privilege, access to which must be based primarily upon an individual’s ability-to-pay, as is the case in the United States.

One aspect of climate change that people are simply not fully comprehending is the massive changes in the natural environment that are going to come with it. This report about California is just one example of what I mean. The massive restructuring of natural systems is going to be very challenging to our civilization.

Drought kills 12 million trees in California's national forests

It isn't just trees. Climate change is going to disrupt the food system, which is going to disrupt us in significant ways.  Once again I urge you to grow food and encourage and facilitate local food production. Communities that do that will have an easier time going through this inevitable transition.  And that is the reality. This restructuring is going to happen, because climate change is already happening, as this report and the tree story make clear.

Rights to Water and Land, a Common Struggle

The declaration on the rights to Water and Land, a Common Struggle, was originally presented at the World Social Forum in Tunis.

To date, more than 200 million hectares of land have been grabbed globally by private firms, governments, elites and speculators, often with the support of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the G8 and other institutions and consortiums. The minority’s appropriation of our Commons leads to concentration, forced evictions and the oppression of peoples.
