Bahrain: The King of Bahrain appeared on television to announce an investigation into the deaths of two protesters killed in clashes with security forces, during the past two days of demonstrations. King Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa said, “There have sadly been two deaths. I express my deep condolences to their families.” He also promised that political reform will continue.
Soon after, thousands of protesters gathered in Manama's main square without interference by security forces. The demonstrators said they want political prisoners to be released; more jobs and housing; the creation of a more representative and empowered parliament; a new constitution written by the people, and a new cabinet that does not include Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who has been in office for 40 years.
Comment: Feedback from extremely well-informed and Brilliant Readers indicates the situation is not as tense as depicted in international news coverage. More importantly, it is not a Shiite uprising at all. Rather it is a mix of Sunnis and Shiites plus religious conservatives and secular progressives. It appears to be another elitist gathering, exercising the ability of social media to bring people together in yet another country. The two deaths are reminders that political protest is serious business.

After soliciting the thoughts of its members, the No Labels organization has settled upon three areas of focus for the group's efforts: Policing partisan politics, promoting fiscal responsibility, and election reform.
No Labels founding member John Avlon announced this decision Monday during the weekly leaders conference call.
“Based on your feedback we have decided to focus on three core policy principles going forward.
The next Fourth Turning is due to begin shortly after the new millennium, midway through the Oh-Oh decade. Around the year 2005, a sudden spark will catalyze a Crisis mood. Remnants of the old social order will disintegrate. Political and economic trust will implode. The mass murder in Tucson is another brick in the wall of this Fourth Turning Crisis. The importance of this tragic event is not what happened in that Safeway parking lot, but the reaction in the aftermath of the shooting.
Turnings are not about specific events, but how generations react to the events based on their stages of life. A turning is an era with a characteristic social mood, a new twist on how people feel about themselves and their nation.
It results from the aging of the generational constellation. A society enters a turning once every twenty years or so, when all living generations begin to enter their next phases of life. We entered this Fourth Turning between 2005 and 2008, with the collapse of the housing market and subsequent financial system implosion.
With the success of the Jan 25 revolution, which brought down the Regime of Ex-President Hosny Mubarak, the state of Egypt is currently undergoing a purge for all the corrupt figures that surrounded that Regime. Corruption and Nepotism ran rampant there for 30 years, and the Mubarak Family amassed massive amounts of wealth during their totalitarian rule of Egypt. Now that this era is past us, it's time to hold accountable the Mubarak Family and all of those who aided them or benefited from them. This is where MasrLeaks comes in.
MasrLeaks is founded by Egyptian activists as an attempt to harness the power of the netzines to track down the properties and wealth of the Mubarak family, and other prominent regime figures. It also aims to create a directory for all corruption in Egypt, in order to facilitate and instill transparency in the Egyptian political culture. For the sake of fairness, MasrLeaks demands that any information submitted to it to be well sourced, and documented.
Phi Beta Iota: An anti-corruption wiki and a system for using Twitter and Facebook and SMS to back office web directories, all focused on reporting and erradicating corruption, appears to be inevitable.
