The focus of this post is on electoral reform and restoring integrity to the electoral and governance process of the USA, not on electing Gary Johnson. It should be obvious that neither Trump nor Clinton will support electoral reform.
In the last couple generations of national decline, Americans have tried a B-movie actor and a silver spoon CIA director, a crooked sexual predator and a pious dancing fool, and finally a brilliant fraud. None of this has worked as the rich got richer, the country turned ever more plutocratic, and its military fought incessant imperial wars of value only to plutocrats.
“The Art of the Deal” made America see Trump as a charmer with an unfailing knack for business. Tony Schwartz helped create that myth—and regrets it.
“I put lipstick on a pig,” [Tony Schwartz] said. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.” He went on, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.” Continue reading “Mongoose: Is Donald Trump a Naked Lying Fraud? According to a September 2015 poll by YouGov, nearly one-third of respondents (29 percent) “could imagine a situation in which they would support the military seizing control of the federal government.” That number went up to 43 percent in a hypothetical situation in which the government was beginning to violate the U.S. constitution.
Whole way in which information and society are organized has changed. From stovepipes to networks — growing power of audience and authentity. This is a threat to the whole Westphalian order of nations (i.e. top-down “because we say so” hierarchical authority). State-owned media now setting the new standard for message delivery while the Western media is collapsing for lack of viability of the advertising – print – broadcast models. Western media is spending too much time on minutia of single events and not enough time on framing, context, and meaning.
“It is time for schools to come down from the ivory tower…and start engaging with the public, doing news analysis, data dives, informing the public [in ways that] the media cannot. . . . This is an opportunity as well as a responsibility.”
Obama's agenda in all this isn't difficult to spot. During his term in office, he's continued to permit the federal government to militarize police forces all over the country. Heavier weapons and equipment, fit for a full-bore Army. Why would he allow this, unless he were aiming toward an escalation of conflict between citizens and cops? And where would the conflict focus most fully? In inner cities. And who would ultimately win? The police/army, of course.
