Obama encourages more protests as he militarizes police—what??

Obama's agenda in all this isn't difficult to spot. During his term in office, he's continued to permit the federal government to militarize police forces all over the country. Heavier weapons and equipment, fit for a full-bore Army. Why would he allow this, unless he were aiming toward an escalation of conflict between citizens and cops? And where would the conflict focus most fully? In inner cities. And who would ultimately win? The police/army, of course.

They know they got too greedy and went overboard. . . . Instead of acknowledging and addressing the fundamental flaws within themselves, they are devoting their energies to demonizing the victims of their corruption, all in order to de-legitimize those grievances and thus relieve themselves of responsibility to meaningfully address them. That reaction only serves to bolster, if not vindicate, the animating perceptions that these elite institutions are hopelessly self-interested, toxic, and destructive and thus cannot be reformed but rather must be destroyed.

There has been a lot of noise about the stolen Democratic National Committee documents appearing on Guccifer 2.0's WordPress.com blog, but there is another equally impressive document cache out there.

DC Leaks (dcleaks.com) are pitching themselves as hackers, but the presentation is more consistent with political opposition researchers. The registration of a domain, the bare web server, albeit offshore, instead of hiding behind Cloudflare, and a slick, responsive site that expects visitors to let it run JavaScript are all cringe-worthy missteps. An actual hacker would be more likely to have a Twitter account, be using pastebin or some other text hosting site, and releasing torrent downloads of large caches of documents.

It seemed that journalists were no longer required to believe their own stories to be true, nor, apparently, did they need to provide evidence. Instead it was up to the reader – who does not even know the identity of the source – to make up their own mind. But based on what? Gut instinct, intuition, mood? Does the truth matter any more?
