New insights into genetic susceptibility of COVID-19: an ACE2 and TMPRSS2 polymorphism analysis
COVID-19 is strangely and tragically selective. We found unique genetic susceptibility across different populations in ACE2 and TMPRSS2. Large genetic studies in populations of geographically diverse ancestry have demonstrated substantial genetic variation in protein-coding regions, with widely varying allele frequencies. 39% (24/61) and 54% (33/61) of deleterious variants in ACE2 occur in African/African-American (AFR) and Non-Finnish European (EUR) populations, respectively.
