Analytic Bridge vs. Data Science Central

I recently spent some time digging into Data Science Central membership, gathering information on about 12,000 members of the site. I started having some profile editing deja vu, went through my bookmarks and unsorted PDFs, and discovered an interesting competition.

. . . . . . . . .

So these two data science oriented sites are using the same strategy to build audience by outreach on LinkedIn, and they appear to be using the same software for their web sites. Both sites are career SEO oriented, with member posts, top content, and other features tuned to drive recognition and traffic. Having just sorted out what is happening I am wondering how effective each one is. Data Science Central has 12,000 members, Analytics Bridge has 27,000, but …

KingCast and Mortgage Movies Watch Hand-Picked Judge Mickey Norman Protect M&T Bank and Twice-Disciplined Foreclosure Mill Attorney Thomas P. Dore in Fraudclosure Case.

Moving coming soon! There is Attorney John Y. Lee. I don’t know what is in his trick bag today but yesterday, and several weeks ago he somehow managed to fit a Baltimore Circuit Court Judge in that bag:  Today I attended what basically resembled a kangaroo court hearing that was orchestrated at the outset by Attorney John Y. Lee, when he hand delivered memoranda to Judge Norman….. before Norman was even assigned to the case.

Naturally Judge Norman became the Judge on the case. One must wonder why Lee picked Norman instead of, say, Judge King who found foreclosure mill attorney Thomas P. Dore to have violated several ethics rules. It was the second such determination that Dore has faced in connection with foreclosure cases in the past 3 years, for use of false documents and signatures.

Redrawing the security map

27 June 2013

Palais d'Egmont, Brussels

In the run up to the December 2013 European Council devoted to defence issues, and in view of ongoing austerity cuts in EU and NATO member states, the Security & Defence Day ’13 will address several questions: Does Europe have the means to fulfil its global security ambitions and stabilise its own neighbourhood? How could NATO’s ‘smart defence’ and EU’s ‘pooling and sharing’ relieve the pressure on defence budget and what could be done to kick-start a renewed defence industry drive? This year’s debate will span many topics, including how cooperation between the EU and NATO might be improved to avoid duplication in maritime operations, mitigate the threats posed by terrorism and coordinate their cyber-security as well as cyber defence strategies.

The Future of Learning — the Death of Rote Education

Ericsson put together an inspiring 20-minute video promoting its “Networked Society” and “Future of Learning” movements.  It’s worth watching whether or not you work in education because it makes some poignant statements about issues that affect our society as a whole.

Here are 5 quick take-aways:

1) Instead of molding students to fit into the educational system, we should be adapting systems to address the different needs of students.

2) The concept of school used to be synonymous with access to information, now they are no longer the same thing.

3) Answers are everywhere, especially online.  So, a teacher’s job is to point growing minds towards the right questions.  We should teach people to solve interesting problems, not to memorize answers to problems we’ve already solved.

4) Nobody takes standardized tests for a living.  Learning should prepare you to cope with life’s surprises, but traditional education prepares you to cope with certainty.  There is no certainty.

5) There is no virtual substitute for universities.  They provide an essential space in which teachers and students learn to solve problems, debate issues, and develop passions together.  However, online learning and technology are not only improving the traditional university experience, they are providing high quality education to those who did not have access to it before.  On a global level.
