Evidently the US military did not feel it could or should be responsible for the direct recovery of Bergdahn, whether he is a returning deserter or a freed prisoner. A more professional exchange would have dropped off the receiving team, which would have a) taken the time to engage and b) called in for lift-off after being fully satisfied Bergdahl was not another Khost Kathy moment (do not, EVER, wait until you are next to the platform before doing your explosives search).

Report: NSA Collects Millions of Facial Images Per Day

The National Security Agency is reportedly capturing millions of images per day to feed facial recognition programs. Citing top-secret documents obtained by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, the New York Times reported the agency ‘s reliance on such technology has grown in recent years.
New software allows the NSA to “exploit the flood of images included in emails, text messages, social media, videoconferences and other communications,” the newspaper said. “The agency intercepts ‘millions of images per day' – including about 55,000 ‘facial recognition quality images' – which translate into ‘tremendous untapped potential,'” the newspaper reported, citing documents from 2011.

Still further and most disturbing, he additionally additionally asserts that (a) USG has long known of other assertions and that the units incurred deaths trying to find SGT Bowe. I don't know if all this is true or not, but I think it makes wonderful grist for counterintelligence and criminal investigators who should routinely debrief SGT Bowe during the standard “POW reintegration” process. I also think the assertions are sufficiently specific that a skilled polygrapher could construct a valid “specific issue” polygraph test (as opposed to the fishing expedition screening exams most frequently constructed).

This week on Moyers & Company, Stiglitz tells Bill that Apple, Google, GE and a host of other Fortune 500 companies are creating what amounts to ‘an unlimited IRA for corporations.” The result? Vast amounts of lost revenue for our treasury and the exporting of much-needed jobs to other countries.
