The epidemic of wars and military clashes from Syria to Yemen, the rising powers of China and Russia, and the turbulence in Pakistan, Central Asia and North Africa all underscore the urgent need for a highly professional intelligence agency within the European Union and between the EU and the UK in particular.

However, the author shows that although the European Union introduced its common security policy more than two decades ago, EU member states have failed to develop and fully integrate professional measures for intelligence-sharing to reduce security risks and the challenges of domestic radicalization and extremism.

Bringing the Platform Co-op “Rebel Cities” Together: An Interview with Trebor Scholz

Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing Trebor Scholz, Associate Professor for Culture & Media at the New School and author of the book Uber-Worked and Underpaid: How Workers Are Disrupting the Digital Economy (Polity, 2016). He is currently touring European cities to talk about platform cooperativism.

Platform cooperativism, as he puts it, is “a way of joining the peer-to-peer and co-op movements with online labor markets while insisting on communal ownership and democratic governance.” I talked to him about this young movement, its rise, and the steps ahead.

A group of senior MPs is calling for a vote to decide whether Tony Blair is guilty of contempt of Parliament over his decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

Mr Davis said if his motion is accepted by Speaker John Bercow, it could be debated before Parliament breaks up for the summer on 21 July. He said if Mr Blair was found guilty it was unclear what actions would be taken but “the government could choose to strip him of his Privy Councillorship”.

Hacked Emails Reveal NATO General Plotting Against Obama on Russia Policy

Retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Philip Breedlove, until recently the supreme commander of NATO forces in Europe, plotted in private to overcome President Barack Obama’s reluctance to escalate military tensions with Russia over the war in Ukraine in 2014, according to apparently hacked emails from Breedlove’s Gmail account that were posted on a new website called DC Leaks.
