Below speaks to the Republican Party's abandonment of Black Republicans. Not covered is the counterpoint — the Democratic Party — which has put more black people in jail than there were slaves at the beginning of the Civil War — taking Black Democrats for granted. Both parties are derelict.

Without a doubt, the blockchain will be very useful for registering large corporate capital markets and making cross-border banking transactions, but as system for the development of everyday applications on the Internet, it’s a danger to the distributed structure of the network.

Listen Up. Hear and Know Enables Information Access in an Innovative Way

On this trip to Paris I was going to learn about a company with technology that performed some GPS type functions without GPS. In addition to tracking hardware and firmware, the company called Hear and Know has a database system which sends out emails and SMS alerts to inform the team tracking  an object of interest  exactly where that said object is in real time. Based on my concerns about the precision of GPS centric systems, I wanted to understand the Hear and Know approach. (Yes, “hear” refers to the company’s approach to capturing audio.) Instead of search, the company Hear and Know developed systems and methods to have information flow directly to a person who needs to know who, what, where, and when events take place. This is practical, real time, and actionable information. None of that keyword search and fuzzy geo-location implementation.

U.S. TV News and Communicative Architecture: Between Manufacturing Consent and Mediating Democracy

By sidelining communicative architectures that facilitate democracy and an informed electorate, dominant journalistic conventions are key components of propaganda, or the manufacture of consent. Cottle and Matthews argue that ‘communicative structures’ or ‘communicative architectures’, are an under-studied and under-recognised instrument for the manufacture of consent. The ‘classic reporting' structure (57.2 %) involves brief updates on stories in the news cycle, which  “deliver at best thin accounts of events”. The ‘balance’ structure (18 %) ‘ contest and contention', in which “opposing views and arguments [are] generally given approximately equal weight or representation”, but rarely presents more than two perspectives. “The exposé/investigation frame conforms to the idealized liberal democratic role of journalism as public watchdog where journalists actively set out to investigate, expose, and uncover information and practices that would not otherwise be revealed within the public domain. This includes traditional investigative journalism based on intensive research and exploratory fact-finding as well as exposé journalism of public or private affairs.” This accounted for just 0.4 %.
