ROBERT STEELE: The man is not stupid. This is a budget play and it is pathetic. GCHQ is incompetent at cyber-operations — as incompetent as NSA — but like it or not that is where cyber should reside. MI-6 should be focusing on HUMINT including overt and action HUMINT (the ability to place a cyber device anywhere).

President Trump proposes launching state-run media network
“While CNN doesn’t do great in the United States based on ratings, outside of the U.S. they have very little competition. Throughout the world, CNN has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way,” he tweeted.
“Something has to be done, including the possibility of the United States starting our own Worldwide Network to show the World the way we really are, GREAT!”
It is hard even for attentive members of the public to fully comprehend the U.S. military budget.
“The scale of spending alone makes it hard to grasp. Public understanding of the costs of war is further limited by secrecy, faulty accounting, and the deferral of current costs,” I argued recently in a short paper for the Costs of War Project at Brown University. Neta C. Crawford of Brown University estimated the post-9/11 costs of war at $5.9 trillion through FY 2019.
Is the Defense Department’s entire vision of cybersecurity wrong?
“What if the way we’ve structured Cyber Command and our thinking about this space, what if it’s wrong?” Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, deputy commander of U.S. Cyber Command, said during a keynote presentation at the CyCon U.S. conference in Washington Nov. 14.
Cyber Command’s latest command vision states that adversaries are exploiting cyberspace on a daily basis for their own national interests below the threshold of armed conflict, and “in order to improve security and stability, we need a new approach.”
I really like Larry Ellison for varied reasons including his off-shore sailing and his cash flow, but he now epitomizes the previously successful enterprise that is doomed (along with Google, Microsoft, and IBM, among many others).
