That's fewer shots than there were wounds on Michael Brown's or Walter Scott's bodies. It should be pointed out that this carnage is occurring in the United States that has seen a sharp decrease in crime, particularly violent crime.

More than thirteen years after the U.S. intelligence community named the prevention of terrorism its number one goal, it seems to have little understanding of what drives terrorism, or how to counter it. And, if the recently increasing criticism is correct, the government’s investment in academic terrorism research isn’t helping. It may be because the government is continuing to fund research supporting discredited theories of terrorist radicalization, rather than objective empirical analyses.

Election reform is on the line at the Supreme Court
SUPREME COURT observers focused on the Affordable Care Act case this week. But the justices heard arguments Monday in another case with potentially major implications for the country’s proper functioning: a dispute over whether voters can break the self-serving system in which state politicians manipulate voting districts to their own and their party’s benefit.

Sigh. I was not going to comment on David Patraeus gross dereliction of duty but several colleagues are totally pissed off and they are correct to be angry. Here are a mix of supposition and fact along with my conclusions on this sorry disgrace to the Republic. HOWEVER, I conclude this is not about Patraeus — many others should be indicted along with him and many others have committed high crimes and misdemeanors that exhonerate him in relative terms.
