The Reuters photos of the three other men appear to be head shots, execution style, suggesting they lacked weapons and did not resist.

An Arabic TV station claimed the child had, in fact, said her father was taken prisoner and then shot, in an execution of sorts.

Phi Beta Iota: Unarmed, no guards, in a stucco hooch not a mansion, out-numbered by US forces, not captured?  This all smells like a classic deception operation, the main purposes of which have been to a) boost the President's political numbers; b) panic the uninformed into thinking information was captured, pushing them into chatter mode; and c) justify getting out of Afghanistan sooner.  We don't believe it.  But then, according to the President, we are not a credible source of informed opinion.  Who is?  Certainly not the President or his political appointees or the military careerists sworn to uphold the Constitution but preferring to uphold the chain of command and the cover story of the day.

Reasons to doubt official Bin Laden death story (please contribute)

Submitted by pseudonym on Tue, 05/03/2011 – 10:33

Hello everyone,

Some readers here have contended that those of us who doubt the official story of bin Laden's death are not using our critical thinking skills. I maintain that the opposite is true: those of us who have analyzed the news releases most cannot be anything but skeptical. Contradictions, omissions, and discrepancies abound, so that more questions are raised than answered.

Consider:

Glenn Beck, Muslims Agree On Bin Laden's Burial

Osama bin Laden's death may have been only the third time the New York Times actually stopped their presses, but maybe they should go for four, because Glenn Beck and many Muslims both agree that the terrorist shouldn't have been given a burial at sea.

NIGHTWATCH on Bin Laden Sightings–Saudi PSYOP?

Troubling End Note: Asia Times Online on 24 March published an article by Syed Saleem Shahzad, who is an insightful commentator on South Asian affairs, as well as the publication's Pakistan Bureau Chief. He has studied al Qaida a long time.  He wrote that US intelligence has actionable information that Osama bin Laden has been “criss-crossing” the Pakistan – Afghanistan border region in northwestern Pakistan during the past few weeks.

Phi Beta Iota: Bin Laden sets alarm bells ringing By Syed Saleem Shahzad

Shahzad wrote that US officials are “stunned” by bin Laden's visibility and the frequency of his movements. Bin Laden's purposes are not known. Terrorist analysts reportedly think the new level of activity means bin Laden is planning another large attack, though the 9/11 planning was actually not done by bin Laden. The South Asia analysts think he is meeting with friendly Afghan warlords to bring the Afghan War to a favorable conclusion for the Taliban.

What is disturbing is how little mainstream media attention this article has received. Readers are encouraged to read it.

Identifying and Structuring the Objectives of Terrorists

by Gregory L. Keeney and Detlof von Winterfeldt

Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events, August 2009

Phi Beta Iota: The report is interesting, and provides a useful methodology for approaching the relationship between intangible values and tangible manifestations, but it has one major flaw: it does not provide for the reality that expelling dictators and the US from the Middle East might be related to actually seeking to create a prosperous Middle East at peace.  Because of that flaw, the report also fails to point out that the best strategy against Al Qaeda is NOT to try to hunt down individual Al Qaeda members, but rather to pull out of the Middle East, stop supporting dictators (and Israel) and begin waging peace at one third the cost of war.  One should not throw stones when one lives in a glass house.  The USA today is a glass house on a sand foundation.

‘Al-Qaida on brink of using nuclear bomb'

By Heidi Blake and Christopher Hope, The Daily Telegraph February 1, 2011

Al-Qaida is on the verge of producing radioactive weapons after sourcing nuclear material and recruiting rogue scientists to build “dirty” bombs, according to leaked diplomatic documents.

A leading atomic regulator has privately warned that the world stands on the brink of a “nuclear 9/11”.

Security briefings suggest that jihadi groups are also close to producing “workable and efficient” biological and chemical weapons that could kill thousands if unleashed in attacks on the West.

Historic events in the Arab world gripped the world's attention in January. In Tunisia weeks of escalating riots and demonstrations over dire economic conditions, corruption and government repression culminated in the ouster of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali on 14 January. He was replaced by an interim government which announced the country's first free elections since independence.

The direction of Tunisia's transition, and its significance for the region, are not yet clear. But, assuming a successful transition, this could mark the first genuine popular revolt leading to a democratic government in the Arab world.

Inspired by the Tunisian uprising yet fuelled by their own long-standing grievances, hundreds of thousands took to the streets across Egypt towards the end of the month, protesting against authoritarian rule and poor living standards, and calling for President Hosni Mubarak to step down. Over 135 people were killed and more than 2,000 injured during the initial police response. The army was deployed at the end of the month to curb increasing chaos and looting, but vowed not to use force against the protesters.
