CitySourced Integrates San Francisco’s Open 311 System
San Francisco — May 5th, 2010 — CitySourced, a real time mobile civic engagement company and a finalist at the 2009 TechCrunch50 conference, announced today that its innovative mobile phone application is now integrated with the San Francisco Open311 API to send reports from CitySourced directly to San Francisco’s 311 system. 311 systems allow citizens to connect directly with non-emergency government offices.

Call centers for people to find out anything they need “one cell call at a time” is mentioned in two of these books published by the 501(c)3 Earth Intelligence Network (Collective Intelligence & Intelligence for Earth). A product and service system that provides all supply chain information & “true cost” information to anyone (to help with purchasing decisions) with a phone (SMS & audio) is also being advocated (public kiosks, too). This could also be added in the future to this kind of product video screen.

Innovators are being asked to friend Uncle Sam as the next good ideas for the government are being sought through social networks.

Anil Dash sums up the power of crowdsourcing with a simple question he put to his Twitter feed a few months back. It was time for a new cell phone, he announced. What should he get?

“Somebody I don’t even really know said, ‘Here’s a list of the most popular handsets in America ranked by how much radiation they put out,’” Dash recalled.

Now he had an info stream he hadn’t even thought to consider. And if social media could better inform his relatively small cell phone conundrum, imagine what it could do for the big-picture questions we really want to get right — the questions government answers on behalf of us all.

“We have this disconnect where, as a private citizen, I can ask for my friends’ opinions on something on Twitter or Facebook,” Dash said. “But yet, someone can be making decisions that affect all of us” — a government official, that is — “but not have that ability.”

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Denies Access to WTC Collapse Data

FINDING REGARDING PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION
Pursuant to Section 7(d) of the National Construction Safety Team Act, I hereby find that the disclosure of the information described below, received by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (“NIST”), in connection with its investigation of the technical causes of the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers and World Trade Center Building 7 on September 11,2001, might jeopardize public safety. Therefore, NIST shall not release the following information:

1. All input and results files of the ANSYS 16-story collapse initiation model with detailed connection models that were used to analyze the structural response to thermal loads, break element source code, ANSYS script files for the break elements, custom executable ANSYS file, and all Excel spreadsheets and other supporting calculations used to develop floor connection failure modes and capacities.
2. All input files with connection material properties and all results files of the LS-DYNA 47-story global collapse model that were used to simulate sequential structural failures leading to collapse, and all Excel spreadsheets and other supporting calculations used to develop floor connection failure modes and capacities.

Phi Beta Iota: We've been anticipating this since first pointing at Haggle and FreeNet. This is the single greatest piece of news for the public in this era.  What this means is the end of toll-booths and extortion in local to global communications; it means the end of government ignorance in trying to control spectrum–we are now in Open Spectrum time.  For so many reasons, all centered on conscious revolution, evolutionary activism, holistic Darwinism, non-zero, and collective intelligence, this one bit of news changes everything.

The OpenNet Initiative (ONI) 2010 Global Summit will convene three high-level panels of experts and practitioners on prominent topics related to cyberspace governance, security, and advocacy. The three panels will be organized as informal “talk show” or “Davos” style format: an active moderator, questions and answers from the audience, and high-level exchanges among the panelists and the audience (as opposed to formal presentations and Q&As;).
The panels will be open to the public and recorded for subsequent podcast.
The summit follows directly on the 2010 OpenNet Initiative Workshop held at Mont-Tremblant June 28-29, which will bring together the regional ONI Commonwealth of Independent States (Opennet.Eurasia) and Opennet.Asia networks. Both these networks will be present at the summit on June 30th.

Comment: Another aspect needed is an “open process” so that we know how the data was collected and how to verify that the data is accurate.
